American Express Membership Rewards - Centurion Additional or New Account?

Greetings,

I called Amex and was informed that I could be accepted for a Centurion Card as of this month. Now that I am here, I am wondering... Do I go ahead and do it and pay the $2500, or should I just have my Dad add me as an additional holder on his account for $1500?

Particularly I am concerned about additional card holder status.

Do your points go to the master card holder or the additional user? Does the additional user get Gold/Diamond status as well?

Most importnantly, do you get or can you request separate statements for the additional user? I don't mind trading miles with my Dad so much if that is the issue there, but I don't want to have to itemize his bill every time I use the card. The $1000 savings is worth some time, but not that much...

If anyone has any experience with this I would really appreciate it.

J.

It will all come on one bill, but it will list all the charges separately by card.

ie It will look like

Mr. John H Smith
Delta $50
Nordstrom $150
Best Buy $300

Total: $500
-------------
Mr. Carl P Smith
Continental $500
Hotel $300

Total $800

Thanks for the reply.

Any idea about access to gold/elite status for the second card holder, and what happens to MR points? Also, what about online access, etc.

Thanks

I don't have the centurion card...but if other point earning Amex cards mean anything all the points earned will go the primary card holder.

IIRC, the additional card holder gets all the same status and perks as the main account.

As an additional user you'll get all perks, except:
- The Departures magazine
- The end-of-year summary
- MR points - which will be credited to your dad's account. You can always ask him to link your FF accounts to his MR acct, and transfer points to your favorite FF program once you've accrued them.
