American Express Membership Rewards - What to do-Gold vs rew gold vs green

Please give me help. Right now i have preferred rewards gold.i have 2 cards and pay 165/year for both(i think). I use the card everyday for almost everything that i buy and mostly have the card for 2 reasons:
-The buyer protection they give me, ie extended warranty, disputing charges etc
-Points(miles for upgrades/free tickets)

i was just reading through the forum and also been checking out the amex website and i see that the card i have really does't do that much for me. Ive been reading through but still cannot find the differance between all the mid level cards, the green and the gold. I thought there used to be REWARD OPTIONS or something like that and thats why i got this card because it was 1:1 nor 2:1 but i dont see that they have that anymore. Should i downgrade to green, upgrade to pref rewards plus?

On another note, can i use a friends plat to book fhr and then pay with my gold and still get the fhr benefits?

I believe you are referencing the Rewards Gold card, which is basically 2 points / 1 mile. This card is $90 / year and has all the other features of your Preferred Rewards Gold. The Preferred Rewards Green might be appealing to you, since it's $20 / year less and has the buyer's protection program as well as 1 point / 1 mile membership rewards. However, it doesn't have the best value guarantee (BVG) program that the Gold card does.

there is a preferred rewards plus card as well. its not really the annual fee that i care about, its just the principle of paying for something that i am not using.

Well--Idon't know if this is what you are looking for--but this AMEX site lists all the cards and shows the benefits relative to MR program.

I have the Rewards Gold Card myself.
