Just finished 2 legs with Swiss. Here are some observations . . . .

Check-in: Swiss doesn't recognize AA elite status for check-in (or anything else) which is wierd since the flight is a code-share and they should. Otherwise, JFK check-in was allright, though nothing special.

Seemed truly amazing that nearly 90% of pax on JFK-ZRH were continuing on to ZRH-TLV with me. Does anybody just go to Zurich?

Inflight: You definetly feel the better air system on the A340. Seats were comfortable but the legroom was a bit tight. The entertainment system was nice but difficult to navigate and often froze up. The live cameras are very cool, but they don't activate them until after take-off and they kill it before landing, which are the most interesting times, so what's the point? When the system did freeze, the crew was clueless as to how to reset it. In fact, the crew, on both legs, were among the rudest flight attendants I have ever come in contact with. The Swiss crew was very unpleasant, coarse, unfriendly and believe it or not, rude. I don't know why everybody raves so much about European airlines cause I feel like the old hags on AA are better than the Swiss when it comes to politeness. They gave people a hard time for asking for drinks. Somebody was asleep when they came through with a meal and when he went back literally 5 minutes later they refused to give him a tray!!! Overall, I was VERY unimpressed with the Swiss service.

Transfer in ZRH: No problems here - but I've got to report on one SHOCKER - they wanted $5 for a 750ml bottle of water in ZRH. I understand that airports mark it up but five bucks for a stinkin bottle of water?

Bottom line: I'll be hard-pressed to fly Swiss in any consistent fashion. Big letdown and dissappointment.

Good report. Thanks. Swiss is always so expensive to Israel and BA is much better.

What about the flights to/from TLV or did I miss a page? toda

Thanks for this warning on Swiss. At Finnair, they have the camera on especially for the take-off and landing on the A319/320/321 aircrafts. Last week when landing in HEL, we could see very close the guy who was assisting the plane for gate approach, it's like "smile, you're candid camera" ;)

Ick!

Sounds like "Soup Nazi Airways." Your trip report was a grim reminder that Switzerland used to have the world leader among airlines. They now have a sorry third-rate carrier.

Was the service any better and the crew any friendlier on the Zurich-Tel Aviv portion of your flight?

-Mats.

Thanks for enlightening me. Seinfeld is not readily available on German TV screens, so this was news to me ;)

<<Seemed truly amazing that nearly 90% of pax on JFK-ZRH were continuing on to ZRH-TLV with me. Does anybody just go to Zurich?>>

On my last two trips from JFK to Geneva I noticed that most passengers on the Zurich flight were bound for Tel Aviv. Seems that local point to point traffic is limited. Also you have AA, Continental also competing on this route. And I think Delta though I may be wrong.

<<nflight: You definetly feel the better air system on the A340. Seats were comfortable but the legroom was a bit tight.<<

The legroom is 31" like BA, KLM, LH. LY is 32".

>>The entertainment system was nice but difficult to navigate and often froze up. The live cameras are very cool, but they don't activate them until after take-off and they kill it before landing, which are the most interesting times, so what's the point? <<

When I took the LX A340 the entertainment broke down. On takeoff as it was at night we saw nothing but a blurb and they never switched it on at landing. SAS put it on on landing and takeoff. Seems they are lazy.

<<were among the rudest flight attendants I have ever come in contact with. The Swiss crew was very unpleasant, coarse, unfriendly and believe it or not, rude. >>

Wow this is very interesting. I have not flown Swiss transatlantic in 9 months. On all my last flights they were super friendly except on landing in Geneva when they told us we were too slow getting off and that they were going to shut the doors.

Regarding AA I find the crews very unpleasant but I love the seats / legroom which I think is 34".
