Hello all.
Have a quick couple of questions for you.
I'm taking my first flight on Qantas airlines to Sydney in April.
I wanted to find out what some of you who have flown on Qantas thought of your flight/s and the airline in general?
How were you treated?
Thanks in advance for you comments. It will give me an idea of what to look forward to come April.

You might like to take a look or ask in the Qantas forum, found at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=498 - there's plenty of friendly helpful people there that'll be happy to share more than you ever wanted to know about the Flying Kangaroo.

In general though, if you're in economy, the entertainment is decent, the food is edible, the seat pitch is a little on the tight side and the service - well it's economy, sometimes they're friendly, sometimes not so friendly, though usually not too bad overall. But if you give flight number details I'm sure people can give you a better overview of exactly what to expect.

Any 14 hour flight in economy is tiring and you have to take care of your own entertainment and needs. Pack a litre bottle of water, for example, and some snack bars, then it doesn't matter when the crew comes by for service. Sometimes QF will have good movies (more often than US airlines, they don't censor movies as much), sometimes the crew will be enthusiastic. But that is rare LAX-SYD as the crew will have had a short layover in LAX (a day shorter than in past years) and are generally tired and cranky. However this usually makes it much better than UA service, for example. The seats are well designed and surprisingly comfortable (though I admit to last flying Y trans-Pacific over a decade ago, so I'm not an authority on QF Y service). Unfortunately QF knows it has a near-monopoly on this route and has moved its better service to routes with competition, such as LHR-SYD (these get considerably better everything this year). So don't expect too much, even if you are flying in F.

QF8 is a great flight IMHO cos it leaves in the middle of the day rather than at midnight. I recently flew QF8 & it was fairly empty so my daughter & I got the middle seats to ourselves which meant we could lay down to sleep if we felt the need. If you check here: Qantas entertainment (http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/inTheAir/entertainmentGuide/internationalEconomy/index) you can find out what movies will be shown on your flight (you can only check the current month so you'll need to wait until April).
