I just went through this a week or two ago. I was given one of two opitons. 1) redeposit for $75-I am gold medallion. 2) Put the ticket into 'suspense' with the option of reticketing within 12 months at no charge.

I elected for option #2 since the ticket was a first class award that I booked back when FC awards were only 40k miles :p

Hm...mmm. I just scored a first class ticket on Malaysian Airlines from LAX to BOM . I asked what would happen if after I cancelled the trip once I was ticketed . I was told that I would get all my miles recredited with a $35 service charge. Note that I have no status with Delta. Just as an aside, unrelated to this thread I just want all of you with bad experiences with obtaining a delta reward, that I obtained this F reward on the dates I wanted in less than five minutes on the phone with customer service. This is for a trip in less than seven weeks. Contrast this to Continental where I am a Gold and could not obtain any ticket for love or money or any combination of its dozen or so partners.

I usually have no problems getting the award tickets I want either Fleur_de_lys, and the closer to departure date, the easier it is.

I just returned two certificates and was charged $100 each. Are there different policies depending on whether it is a ticket or a certificate? Otherwise I would have put it in to a ticket and then redeposit the miles.

Are you simply changing the dates, leaving origin and destination intact, or can you book a brand new itin so long as it is a F domestic award? Secondly, does the 12-month period begin to run when the award was first ticketed or when placed in 'suspense'?

Origin and destination have to stay the same or there's the $100 change fee New flight has to be non revenue (award) first class. Since the ticket is LAX-FLL I'm sure I'll use it later in the year.

The CSR told me I have 1 year to rebook. I took that to mean that the clock started running on the day I cancelled the exisitng itinerary.

Again, my main objective was to avoid having to pay $75 redeposit fee and fork over an additonal 5000 miles when I decide to make the trip at a later date.

- Change of dates (not the route) is free if travel is one year from the original date of ticket issuance
- Change of routing is USD 100
- Redeposit of award certificates or tickets is USD 100 for general members and USD 75 for Medallion members
