Haven't seen anyone post this yet, but tucked away in this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=376821 was a line saying that EK were flying from BKK-SYD.

Sure enough a bit of digging shows that as from April '05, EK will be running a 73E (which I assume is a 777-300) 3 days a week - Tue Thu Sat ex BKK at 2140, arriving following day at 0925.

Return flights are on Wed, Fri & Sun at 1800, arriving into BKK at 0100 the next day.

I wonder what the point in doing that was...does the DXB-SIN-SYD service still exist or are they only nonstop now ?

Or maybe there was over-capacity from other carriers on SIN-SYD forcing EK to move it to BKK.

Finally, a decent way to use the EK/UA RTW Sth Pacific fare in Business ex-BKK.

I'm signing up.... at less than US$3K RTW in Business it is SWEET !!!!

So now BKK-SYD on EK
SYD-USA.....-Europe all on UA
Europe-Dubai-BKK on EK with sidetrips allowed to Colombo (a little SQ MR anyone??) and several other cities expempted from backtracking prohibition

Are these flights showing up on EK's Rez system yet ??

The flights are loaded into EK's own timetable tool, but I couldn't get it to display via expedia.

Couldn't 73E also be a 737 Extra Range? But I have never heard of those. I thought it could also be 77E (which I have seen) as an extra range 777. Could a 737 do that route length? Maybe they misprinted? I guess TG is not doing a good job on the same BKK-SYD route thus making EK jump in.

Found the flights on the EK rez site... it is a 777-300 3-cabin config.

I have booked and travelled on one EK/UA RTW (a Nth Pacific version) ex-BKK this year ..and ticketed direct with EK Ticket office in BKK.

I will be booking the next tickets in a few weeks when I return to BKK .. for travel next summer.

EK don't have any 737's of any desciption. Smallest they have is an A310, that's if they are still actually being used on some of the regional routes.

I think this is simply stemming from a comment I made where the EK code used in the airline's own timetable was 73E. It's a bit of a strange one to say the least, but is obviously denoting a 777-300ER, even though 773 or 77E might have been more broadly expected...

It looks as if the A310's have now been retired, btw...
