Las Vegas - Help with Birthday Celebration in Vegas

I am celebrating a significant birthday by taking 13 friends to Vegas for four days, August 2 - 6. I have reserved rooms at The Orleans based on recommendations on this site using a combination of the Mardi Gras and regular rates (because we will be there on Friday). I also reserved a suite for myself using the spa suite special for one day and the regular rate for the other days. The regular rooms average about $72/night and my suite averages about $302/night. I am watching out for a special at a strip hotel, but it would have to be no more than $80 a night for me to move from the Orleans especially since my rate at the Orleans includes one breakfast and one dinner for my friends as well.

I plan to have my birthday dinner at the VooDoo Cafe, mainly because one of my favorites is Cajun/Creole food, and because of the view. From my research it appears Emeril's and Commander's Palace have better food, but the view pushed me to the VooDoo.

Here is where I need help. When do you think the strip hotels will start to post specials for August and can I really hope to find any of the nicer hotels (equivalent to the Orleans) for $80/night including taxes? Also, is anyone aware of any coupons for Gladys Knight?

Suggest you check www.travelaxe.com but sign up deals should be available 8-12 weeks ahead of your travel dates.

Have you considered the three bedroom suite at the Hard Rock for you friends?

Also check the newbie guide here by searching the forum.

You may have already seen this on the Orleans Web Site, but they do have a free shuttle that goes to their sister properties. One is the Barbary Coast on the corner of Flamingo and the Strip. The other is the Gold Coast which is right next door to the Rio.

The Orleans has a great Italian restaurant - Sazio and their other restaurants are good too. Low limit gaming and a large poker room. Being at an off strip property might help keep your group together a bit more if that is what your interested in.

Happy "Significant" Birthday!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will continue to check travelaxe for better rates. By the way, very funny about the three bedroom suite at the Hard Rock. I was quoted $50K a night. That's a little out of my price range. ;)

You are right. I will be satisfied at the Orleans if I don't find anything on the strip. I've never stayed off strip, but I know it has it's advantages. Thanks for the info.

Does anyone know the prices of the Bananas Foster, White Chocolate Cheesecake Parfait, and/or Creme Brulee at the VooDoo Cafe? The menu on the website does not have the dessert prices. Thanks in advance.

How about Hilton Grand Vacations Club on the Las Vegas Strip - they have one and two bedroom suites, full kitchens that are well furnished, washer and dryer - large whirlpool tub in master - if you book a two bedroom, you'll find that second bedroom has a mini-kitchen in it, as well - with a fridge!

It's just north of Circus Circus. It was completed just last year and the suites are gorgeous!

Good luck - have fun
