Which W were you having issues with upgrades at?

I'm guessing it's the W Newark.

Yes, it was Newark. I have only had one problem with them before (the 29 dollar night last February 29).

This time was not quite as bad. . . the desk lady went back to talk to the manager and when she came back (after 5 mins), she hooked me up.

A few things make me suspicious though:

1) Early in the check in process, she asked me if I was on the promotional rate (or something to that effect).

2) During the exchange about the Kool Korners being sold out she said "That's what my manager told me." It seems to me that she would have a way to check on her terminal.

3) When she came back from the talk with her manager, she mentioned that the reason that she couldn't see the availablity was that my room had already been upgraded to a business suite. Not only does this seem wrong to me, it contradicts her implications in 2.

So I suspect, someone at the property is telling the front desk not to upgrade folks on the promotional rate. All in all, staying here for $48, more than makes up for a little bit of hassle in getting the room I want.

Wonder if it will work on gift cards?? hmm .. let me try it out. :)

of course, there's always a catch: I spent Thursday nite at the W NY, liked the robe so much I thought I might buy one. $100. A little too much.

Cold water: looking up on the website, the same robe is $115. A discount brings it back to par w.shipping. Oh well......

For those of you (like myself) who love the W beds, you can get 20% off pretty much everything but the bed itself - all linens and down (which if you buy the ensemble actually cost more than the bed itself! :) ). Not a bad deal.

It's really hard to decide which bed I like better.. the heavenly bed is super, but so is the W bed. It's a nice choice to have I guess :).
