What a tough experience - I had a total of 10 high speed windows open on two computers and clicked each window's "I want it" icon within about 25 seconds and every one of them said "missed it, try back again at 9pm." That American Girl collection must be pretty popular.

Same methodology, same result on the 9pm est attempt. Anyone get lucky on this one or am I the only father who tried to buy his young daughter the hottest dolly on the planet?

I'm still steaming from being burned by their servers. I got to the order page for the 12" Sony Location Free TV, even got to read the thing saying I'd get a certificate about how I'd get the product but when I clicked Continue, their servers crapped out and sent me to an error page saying All Requests Must Originate from here. Hitting the Back button resulted in another error that the offer was over.

My first reaction was to think about canceling my cards.

But I also won the Kitchen Aid Espresso machine. I'm taking that back to Williams Sonoma for $800 in store credit. Luckily Williams Sonoma credit can be used in Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma Home, etc so I essentially bought $800 of store credit for $300.

I am starting to think the whole thing is a big scam...how can they sell 400 Creative Zen MP3 players in under 1 second? After losing out on the BMW, which I of course expected, I figured the player was a no-brainer until I clicked "I want it" and was told I missed it. I will try again at 4 and 9, but after reading other posts and my own experience, I am wondering if this is a rigged deal.

edited to add: darn it! I had 5 browser windows open with the same time showing and I clicked "I want it" in each window, one after the other, from :59 through :01 and I still didn't get a Zen player :mad:

edited to add: tried it again at 9p with 3 browsers...before "playing", I synched my PC clock with the official atomic clock that Amex is suppose to be using to eliminate the chance at time-lag over the net - still didn't get it. Perhaps all 400 were gone this morning and they just enjoyed watching people play at 4p and 9p for no inventory. Hey, I know the Z4 is a true crapshoot, but for pete's sake, not being able to get one of 400 MP3 players? I joined this forum just so I could post on this thread. This whole promo is pure BS. I've been "playing" with my clock for days. Here's how the AMEX clock works.

- The HOUR and MINUTE are based on AMEX's central system clock.
- The SECONDS are based on YOUR SYSTEM TIME's seconds.

Try it, play with your system time's minutes, and nothing much happens. Play with the seconds, and you can actually ADVANCE the mylifemycard page's clock several hours in just a few minutes. If you find the right second to keep applying on your system time you can get the time to keep advancing from :59 to :00 and the minutes roll over.

I've been trying for days on large-scale items, like the Zen Micro that supposedly had 400 items at each time slot. I had already "Missed it, check back at 4PM" at about 8:30am. Bullchit. I thought this was a really fun, great promo for a few days, but man has AMEX pixxed a lot of people off. I encourage you to try my "seconds" trick, because it sure as yell didn't work for me, but it's proof positive that their system design sux0rz and is entirely unfair. I'm not convinced that they even offer these items.

Also, for those people who say it's 1 BMW at 12, 1 BMW at 4, etc. Where on the site does it say that? They don't give any details as to whether it's 3 for the day or 3 for each time slot. How does the ZenMicro MP3 player work, where there are 400 available? Do all 400 go at 12PM and none for the rest of the day? (well, they all probably go at 12:01am due to hackers like me playing with clock settings). Or do they do 134 at 12PM, 133 at 4PM, and 133 at 9PM? Highly Unlikely.

I sent email to American Express about this. I got the same problem when I "won" the Sony 12" LCD TV. Here's the response I got:

Even if you are unsuccessful in buying one of our "hot" items, you may want to explore other parts of the website. There are many savings opportunities offered by merchants across the nation that you may find valuable. Most of these are not limited in quantity.

Yesterday I sent feedback through PlanetFeedback.com with which I've had good response in the past. I'll post again if anything ever comes of it.

It's really too bad that poor poor programming is to blame here. The concept of the promotion is pretty good, haven't seen it before myself. And it's certainly built lots of buzz for Amex. If the site worked better than it did, I'm sure most of these complaints wouldn't have come about. Instead they've managed to build up a lot of frustration with some customers. I think the biggest problem is this feeling that we legitimately won the promotion and then a computer error (on their part I should add) stops us from simply redeeming this win.

I "won" the Ikea wish cert today. Now I just hope I can get it in time to use it before it expires.

I checked in about 4:15 and bid on one of the big belly vases, and was shocked when i was directed to the page to enter my information. All went smoothly and the charge appeared on my statement online that day. Not that I really wanted to win it, but I figure it will make a good Christmas gift for someone.

Got me an Amazon cert. Otherwise, bupkiss. Thought I had come close on one of the biggies. Instead, I got caught up in an apparent server crash. Word from mole inside Amex is they got a lot more traffic for this promo than they thought.
BTW, the cert was a little deceptive, in that it said it would be shipped overnight. But that didn't mean the next day after it was won, only the next day after they got around to shipping it, which was the better part of a week. Not a big deal, but I was waiting on it to order some presents and had to pull the trigger because I couldn't wait anymore. Instead, I'll put it toward a camcorder, which will turn into a really good deal.

I won the Bellagio trip, although I did not receive the UPS shipment until after the expiration date. DID this happen to anyone else? I had to make reservations by 12/31/2004 and I did not receive my confirmation code via UPS until 1/3/2005.

Neither Bellagio or AMEX are willing to do anything as of yet. i would like to get a few people together who this happened to (because I know I am not the only one) and hunt down someone in AMEX with who can compensate us in a similar fashion as the prize.

I think the reason no one's raising too much of a stink is that the coupon itself was free. You just had to be lucky enough to get in and "win" the coupon. Curious to know if ANYONE got theirs before the expiration?

I assumed Clintdog paid the $900+ for the package and received the materials after the deadline passed for it to actually be booked...making the purchase worthless and a loss of $900+

ok, I stand corrected...my mistake...but even so, sending a worthless coupon is not good marketing, and refusing to make good on it is even worse marketing....the expiration date should have been timed for at least 30 days after the date of the promotion so everyone had a fair chance to book their deals.

All I can say is that the prices and wish certificates were not nearly as good as last year. The only wish certificate I wanted was amazon and everytime I tried I Would get a runtime error on the popup. A lot disappointed but figured out my time is worth mroe than hitting a mouse for 30 minutes trying to win a 20% off wish certificate from amazon.

Marriot was $600 for a spa experience package normally priced at $850. Actually if you want to spoil someone it seems like a good deal, but I called Marriot and asked to cancel it.

It is being enforced somehow, because while I have my four, I thought what the heck, I'll try for the Amazon cert - I got one, and attempted to fill out the fields, and on Screen 3 it said "you've already got four - sorry". Not sure if the four limit applies to the items, though.

1) Marriot cert didn't count, or

2) After getting marriot cert I asked for refund. But this doesn't make much sense.

Just used the TRU cert today - bought stuff for the whole extended family - saved over $200. Tried to talk the Ms. into adding a few PSP's and putting them up on ebay - but she thought it was a really bad idea :(.

Also used the Amazon. It's amazing to me that on fatwallet the Amazon is worth more than the TRU.

Also - for anyone using the Amazon cert, it won't work unless you follow the instructions on Fatwallet - you have to enter the code on the very last page. I had first called Amazon support - they told me many people have complained (that the coupon didn't work) and that "marketing" would call me back withint 2 business days. I searched fatwallet to see what others had found out - voila - certificate used.

The details suggested that it would not be locked.

I won the TrU coupon and finally got it in the mail. Only problem was that it was an Amazon coupon. I called AMEX CS and was told I would be getting a call back shortly. Today I got the call. The woman was very nice, she asked if I wanted to keep the amazon coupon or the TrU. I said I would like the TrU. So she asked for the code on the back of the amazon coupon. And low and behold - there wasn't one.

She said she would send me out the TrU and someone may be calling me back because of the lack of code on the Amazon coupon. I told her I would be glad to send it back to her. Let's see what happens.

Still no news on my Treo. So I called AMEX again. Today the very nice CSR said that last week they turned over distribution to a "third party" and since that time, they are unable to track progress.

She also said that they'd been getting calls from folks saying they've yet to receive the AMEX-issued letter of redemption instructions. Her supervisor can't imagine why, but I should get it by the end of the week (fully a week and a half after promised, and I'm not holding my breath.)

She did give me the Smartphone Customer Service # which turns out to be just Palm. After going back and forth on hold with them for 19+ minutes I got disconnected. Called back and Palm doesn't know how to track the order. Since AMEX made the CC charge, they have no record of my CC number or order; can't find my name or email address. Only thing she could think of (after talking with a supervisor again) is to give me the Palm Discount department, "since you got your phone at such a deep discount price.) I called that number and the recording says...you guessed, they guy's on holiday until Jan. 2.

The strange thing is that no one at Palm has ever heard of the AMEX Holiday WishList promotion or the www.mylifemycard.com website. Whomever AMEX set this up with at Palm is working in a total vacuum.

I was prepared to wait a week for the redemption instructions, then maybe pay extra to get my Treo overnighted or at least delivered by the end of the year. But I'm not thrilled to hear that no one can even find or track the dang order!!!

Just received an overnighted letter (dated December 20, 2005) for something called:

Award HQ in Fenton, MO.

I'm not pleased as the instructions read as though my TREO will be locked to a provider. I'm pissed!!!! AMEX's website description absolutely gives the impression that this phone is unlocked!! If I wanted to extend my contract with my provider or even switch to a new one, I could have done that already and at an equal or lesser cost than even the $150. (At the time at least one 3rd-party was running a $69 special through Sprint!!) Besides which AMEX specifically stated that the value of this "prize" was $550. That's factory unlocked cost!!! I currently have no contract with my provider as I already own a very expensive factory unlocked phone, purchased just this year at $650+ so as to avoid ever having to go under contract again, or ever paying early termination fees.

Anybody got a name and number of who at AMEX I need to talk to about this illegal bait and switch???????

I decide to just try out the Palm order site page by page and then quit when I got to a page/requirement that I couldn't stomach and start raising holy heck!!!

So I followed the instructions and at first, sure enough it asked if I wanted to stick with my current provider/plan for $519-$659 or switch and pay "as low as $299".

I chose "stick" and as AMEX's letter advised "ignore the smartphone prices that appear..."

It then gave me a dropdown list to select my current provider: Sprint, Cingular, Roger Wireless (Canada), Verizon and Other. I chose "Other" as I'm with T-Mobile.

Fine print read: "Models with mobile service provided by Cingular, Sprint and Verizon are locked to work only with SIM cards and/or service plans from that specific mobile provider."

Next page warned that Treo's not compatible with Nextel, but it is with Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, Rogers and "additional GSM/GPRS providers.

I think that's the point. If you won the Treo 650 and want an unlocked phone (regardless of who you provider is) choose "Other" from the drop down list.

UPDATE: I received the Treo last Friday via UPS. It is totally unlocked. I inserted my TMO SIM and away I went! Sweet! No new contracts, no fuss, no muss. I'm still learning the Treo and its quirks, but I'm quite happy.

I sent your cert. back in hopes that you would do the honest thing and also send back to me the Besy Buy cert. that I sent to you in good faith. In our PM's, I specifically asked you if the United cert. you offered me had any restrictions or expiration date. You response was "no." However, when I recieved it in mid-December, it not only did had an expiration date, but one that was only two weeks away (December 31st).

That's a pretty convenient statement considering that you never notified me about "not receiving" the best buy cert that I sent you. It was only after I contacted you about the soon-to-be expired United cert. you sent me that you then stated you "never received" the best buy cert.

It's been a week or so since there's been any on-topic discussion in this thread. The need for Amazon codes and other such exchanges really isn't on-topic. Discussion of exchanges and exchanges gone bad really isn't on-topic. And personal bickering isn't either.
