Great story in the Detroit Free Press about the guy who got so abusive on a flight from NRT to DTW that it had to be diverted to ANC.

If this guy was represented by a federal defender (i.e., he couldn't afford a lawyer), I'd say the odds are slim that he'll pay his $70k tab.

Frank Sahutske, a 48-year-old machinist, must write letters of apology to 375 airline passengers after becoming drunk and disorderly
Zatkoff also ordered him to reimburse Northwest Airlines $57,900 for the cost of diverting the flight...
Sahutske also must write a 15-page essay on the environmental impact of dumping thousands of gallons of fuel into the ocean...
He also will be fined $12,500 by the Federal Aviation Administration...
Excellent. ^ The judge should have banned him from air travel for 5 years.

"Deputy Federal Defender David Tholen said Sahutske is "deeply remorseful for his conduct."'
Yeah, I bet he is ... now.

I think the best part is the 15 page paper! Imaging violating your probation for bad grammar or not using proper APA or MLA format! LOL

I kind of like the letters of apology to 375 airline passengers, although I hope he sends them through the court and that they don't give him the personal addresses of everyone on the flight.
I hope the person who he punched in the stomach also files a civil battery case. This jerk should be left penniless.
