From the SAA website:

http://ww1.flysaa.com/in_flight_information/Lounges_Cabins/business_class_cabin.html

A340-600
ZS-SNA/B/C/D/E/F/G

One can recognize this aircraft by its very long fuselage.

Current configuration: 42J and 291Y

These aircraft operate to Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Charle de Gaulle, Atlanta. They are 2-class aircraft offering Business Class and Economy Class.

These aircraft boast Flat-bed seats in Business Class. They have been voted " The most comfortable Business Class Flat-bed Seat" in the world, by Skytrax 2004/2005.

Even better than BA's flat-beds? Then they must be good. Thanks for the great info and links.

I'll be flying SA from HKG to JNB and CPT in early February 2005. Trying to secure business class seats without avail because of the Chinese Lunar New Year heavy holiday traffic. :( I'm still looking forward to going to ZA and flying SA both for the first time.

The big question now is, of course, as jimmac's thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=379008) asks, when will SA join Star Alliance, or any one of the major alliances? The anticipation is killing me. I'd like to know where to put the miles for now, in DL's SkyMiles, TG's Royal Orchid Plus, LH's Miles&More...?

I think SAA will join the Star Alliance network by March 2005.

South African Airways would be a good addition to the Star Alliance group of airlines.

However, the airline posted a heavy loss last year amid failed currency hedging which resulted in major management shuffle and resignations. I believe the airline is back to profitability but the US$1 billion that it lost last year will take a long time to put the airline back into its previous footing.

I am sure, SAA would not cut back on its premium inflight service and I also heard that their lie-flat sleeper seats in Business Class are fantastic. I cannot wait to try this new product out.
