The Centurion Website is finally here!
You can't get to it directly through the AMEX homepage.
To get to it:
1.) You have to log into your account from the homepage.
2.) Next, go to "Account Services."
3.) Click "Benefits and offers"
4.) Click "See Card Benefits"
5.) It should take you to the login screen!

Finally! It took AMEX long enough!

It just seems like an ordinary benefits page. I'm sure there is the same for Platinum and Gold. However it is VERY good to see the benefits in writing and up to date. In fact, I think I already spotted an issue. It says that for Intercontinental hotels we get Platinum status. It doesn't say anything about Ambassador. But I am sure we get Ambassador as I recently was renewed for free.

Oh well, thanks for spotting this. Also it should be mentioned that this website is for US members. I don't know if other countries have the same. Here is a direct link that should be easier than the above method...

Interesting is that when I just for fun put in my German username and password for the Amex sites like Card account or banking I was directly forwarded to my card account just as if I had signed in at www.americanexpress.de (top right of the screen is the sign in).

Ooh, this is very nice. It's so buried! I wonder how long it's been up. I also noticed the Intercontinental Platinum discrepancy... I am going to call later today to ask them about it. I was given Gold Ambassador status with the card.

ironmanjt - I got no Hyatt benefits with my card.

I knew we had the 90 day purchase protection fo theft, loss, damage, etc, but I wasn't sure of the numbers. Up to $10k per incident is NICE! Anyone else find any surprises?

I had a bit of confusion about this myself. It was cleared up when I spoke to CTS. You have to book your first Hyatt Stay with CTS and then you will get the status. In other words, you only get it after your first stay...

Woops. I just signed up for Hatt Gold Passport via their webpage. Looks like I'll have to book a stay and get it transferred. Thanks for clearing that up!

Good to hear about the website. I am just going through the process of trying to get CTS to clear Hyatt Diamond status. Does anyone know, with Hyatt, what the requirements are to keep Diamond now? One stay a year? And if you don't, what does your status drop to?

Good to hear about the website. I am just going through the process of trying to get CTS to clear Hyatt Diamond status. Does anyone know, with Hyatt, what the requirements are to keep Diamond now? One stay a year? And if you don't, what does your status drop to?

After having Cent. a year I just finally went through the process of getting Hyatt Diamond in October and I did clarify with the Cent. rep that this status would renew yearly as long as I keep the Cent. card..... no stay requirement. We'll see if this actually happens-- anyway card I just got (within 2 wks of the required first stay) is valid through 02/06.

I too was concerned with the ommission of the Hyatt benefit on the website. CS says it is still a benefit. As for the stay requirement, the benefits book they sent out last year contained what I have set forth below in the small print T&C. It is not the easiest thing to follow, but what I took away from it is you will lose Diamond Status without at least one stay each year.:

"For Centurion Members, he or she needs to stay at least once prior to the Diamond membership expiration date in order to have his or her Diamond membership status renewed. If Gold Passport members' Cards expire, the history is reviewed and new kits are mailed as a result of calendar year qualification. Cards expire in February for renewal. Examples Joe Smith enroled in March 2000. His original enrollment Card would have an expiation date of February, 2002, which is when he would be considered for renewal. He stayed in November 2001. During the 2002 renewal period he will be renewed to Diamond status. He will continue to be enrolled with Gold Passport Diamond Status. Sam Goodwin enrolls in January 2003. His Card will expire in February 2005, which means he will maintain Diamond Status through 2005. He does not complete a stay before expiration of his original enrollment Card. During 2004 renewal he will not be in renewal process because his Card does not expire before February 2005. However, during 2005 renewal period he will be downgraded to Platinum since he will not have completed a stay prior to the expiration of his Gold Passport Diamond Card. If he does not stay in 2005, he will be downgraded to Gold. "

If post #11 is the definitive list of Centurion benefits, I have a couple questions:

1) Are there any points given for USING the Centurion card? Or would it be better to HAVE the Centurion card for the benefits, but continue to USE my Amex SPG card?

2) I can see why I want Gold Status on CO, DL, and US. But which airlines (including UA and NW) actually give CO, DL, and US GOLDs free or affordable upgrades? And are they automatic or do you have to request them? And, in the pecking order, how often do you really GET the upgrades?

3) Basic membership is $2500. Additional cards cost how much? Do additional cards get ALL the same benefits as the base card? Is there a limit to how many additional cards you can have?

BeantownFlyer
Jan 24, 05, 5:27 pm
1) You get Membership Rewards points for all purchases. No additional charge for MR. You get double points for the usual grocery and drugstore, as well as double points for purchases with all of the Centurion partners (such as the airlines, hotels, Saks, etc.)

2) That's a general question as to what elite status gets you. I would do a search in each forum.

3) $1,500. Unless you are a US Charter member, then it is $1,000 for the primary and $500 for additional cards. No limit on number of supplementals, other than your budget. Supplementals get same benefits.

Someone is going to say "do a search". Most of this stuff has been answered ad nauseum.

Jan 24, 05, 5:51 pm
Thanks for the reply. Before someone says "Do a search", I have read ALL of the Centurion threads at least twice (it has taken me several months). I have searched a bunch. I am trying to consolidate into one place the information needed to make my decision, and I think it may be relevant to others. I can't recall all the fragments from all of the posts I have read, and I don't plan on reading them all again at this time.

I know I could go to the 5 airline websites and read about their upgrade programs. And I have done some of it. But I am hoping that "real people" will tell how it really works in PRACTICE. I am trying to evaluate UPGRADE possibilities, not simply STATUS.

Help will be appreciated.

I'm sure many would argue that SPG points are more valuable than MR points. I still use the Centurion for 80+% of my spend. Then again, I don't have an SPG card.

EDIT: Also, UA will not upgrade US gold for free.

I only received my U.S. Centurion late last year, and have taken one trip since then, so my experience is very limited. My husband and I were booked with SK on a cheap fare (W, Q and S booking classes) from CPH to MCO (SK to/from CPH, UA/TED to MCO, CO from MCO).

With my CO Gold status, I was able to upgrade at the gate to First Class for both myself and my husband (he has no status) from MCO to EWR on the CO flight. My own upgrade would have cleared a couple days ahead of time had I wanted to split our bookings, but I chose not to and took my chances at the gate.

Our pre-reserved seats for the flight were in the premium section due to CO Gold.

With the US Airways Gold card we gained access to the SAS lounges in CPH and EWR. At CPH, we were moved forward to the Economy Plus section and were given a row of three seats for the two of us (I had asked if an upgrade was possible). I do not believe we would have gotten this courtesy without the *G status (or perhaps we would have with my EB Silver -- more likely a combination of the two helped).

With the US Airways Gold we were also able to pre-reserve E+ seating on the United TED flight from IAD to MCO. We would have had UA RCC lounge access in IAD but our connection was late so we were running to make the flight.

US Gold is, I believe, Star Gold. So, in connection with an international itinerary, you can access any of the Star Alliance lounges designated as Star Gold.
