Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - New R fare: biz class seat, coach meal

While not calling it a "super seat", CI has an "experiment" underway in the HND/HNL market until about the end of September. By paying about a $300 premium over coach using an R fare basis, one gets a business class seat in the upper deck of the 747s on the Haneda/Honolulu route (CI 17 and 18), but with coach class meal and beverage service. It's not available on every flight. If you change to a different flight, and if the new flight doesn't have R seats, the premium is not refundable.

Strangely, there is absolutely no promotion of the R fare. Nothing on the Website. Travel agents, even those with wholesale accounts, that I've spoken with don't know about it.

I haven't flown CI since the NGO incident... so I don't know if there is still an R fare.

Northwest has been doing this for a long time on HNL, GUM, and SPN out of NRT for a while now, it's also offered on the KIX-HNL flights.
