Does anyone have a hotel recommendation for Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. My wife and I are looking for a quiet place with nice views (preferably of sunset) on or near a beach, in the range of $100-175 per night.

Thanks!

I have spent much time in the BVI, mostly on Virgin Gorda: however, I recently staid at Sebastians on Tortola- the price is low- the rooms are motel style across a very narrow road from the beach- there are also deluxe rooms on the beach side of the road- There is a restaurant and bar right on the beach- It is a funky, laid back place where you can eat meals just feet from the sea- It is not luxruious but is fine- we had a great visit, rented a car and enjoyed Tortola. They have a website- just google Sebastians Tortola.

I've never stayed at Sebastians personally but am very familiar with the area. I'd second the recommendation as a funky choice. The location is very good, by some of the nicest beaches on the island and next door to Bomba's Shack. If you're staying for a week, it is also worth considering rental of a house. You could get one in the same area pretty economically.

We stayed at Peach Cottage (http://www.cvillas.com/bvi/peachcottage/) in 2001 - actually got engaged there! It's not on the beach but does have nice views, including sunset. Very friendly couple that runs the place.

As far as hotels, we did like the look of Sugar Mill on the north side, but I think it is a bit pricey. Have fun, you'll enjoy it wherever you end up.

Renting a house is a great and often less expensive way to vacation in the Caribbean- especially fdf season of as a share with another couple- The prices at Sebastians are very low even in season. When we satyed. we went for Chrismas and New Years and requested one of their family rooms which has a queen /queen configuration- it was upstairs, which is preferable. We were quite satisfied no view- but the room had A/C and was clean and outside was beautiful Tortola. The restaurant was ok- a bit overpriced- but there were free Hors douevres at happy hour and a nice feel to the place. There is a small beach with lounge chairs- but if the surf is up it can cover the beach. But is is close to a lovely stretch of coastline and I would return.

Might want to look through this:

I have never stayed on land for more than overnight, but have parked a boat outside Cooper Island, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, and Peter Island for a number of days.

You may want to try the Tamarind Club www.tamarindclub.com, a small hotel with 9 rooms. It's near Josiah Bay (about a mile down the road). We stayed there over Thanksgiving and it was very comfortable, great food, great bar (including a swim up bar). It does not have an ocean view which is really the only drawback, but the beach at Josiah Bay is very nice and mostly locals surfing there. Enjoy!

I stayed at Sebastian's for a week about five years ago. The accomodations were okay, the food at the hotel was excellent. You might want to consider getting the meal plan which is a pretty good value.

Take the boat over to Jost and stay at SandCastle (about $150 - $200) - just 6 rooms on the beach on an island of only 150 people. Don't miss foxys.
