In a few other threads, I recall seeing some FTers suggest emailing the manager at a property before arriving there on vacation. I'm going to be at the SJU Marriott this Tues-Sat for vacation, and was thinking it might be good to drop them a note. Anyone have the e-mail address or know how to get it? I called the property itself and the guy who answered wasn't particularly helpful ...

Also, if anyone has a strong opinion -- good or bad -- about their stay here, I'd love to hear it. I'm 25, going with a buddy and just looking to have some fun. Good spot or no?

Thanks.

I think this is a good spot, not the best, but definately not the worst. Nice lobby bar and casino. For some really good fun, head over to Isla Verde or El San Juan Hotel.

Here is the email address and name I used to get our room upgraded.

Room was nice - had the corner suite on the top floor balcony on both sides. Beach is ok - not great. Casino is not Vegas but nice. We didn't leave the hotel for anything since only there one night. Pool area is nice, was a lot of kids.

Let me know if you have more questions.

My opinion is strongly negative, but based on a single stay eight years ago. The place was old and run-down, with staff that treated us like we were doing them a favor staying there.

First of all welcome to flyertalk and the Marriott forum. You find most people know the answer to just about any question, so ask away. Hope to see you around a lot.

Just in case you don't know, you can search the Marriott forum by going to the link directly under the page number in the upper right hand corner of this screen label "search this forum" on the Marriott main page. The following came up when I entered SJU.

Hope this helps and welcome again......

The good: Liked the location; food in the executive lounge was excellent. Had read bad reviews of the beach, so was pleasantly surprised. Pool area is very nice. The Japanese restaurant was very good.

The bad: Reserved and paid for an Executive Level room, but they were all gone by check-in at 4 pm. They would do nothing about it. Apparently no rooms would become available at any time during our three-day stay, so even a move was not possible, neither would they reduce my rate. I settled for a somewhat tired oceanview room on a low floor, but with lounge access. I was not happy and told them so, but received only a shrug as a response from the front desk manager.

The average: Their prestige Italian restaurant is average - very average. Food was okay, service was somewhat lacking for the price paid. The booze in the exec. lounge was fairly expensive.

Verdict: I will stay at the Hilton next time despite similar iffy reviews.
