Canadian Airlines Plus - Lifetime Mileage Accruals
I understand that CP has a lifetime award for fliers who accumulate 1,000,000 qualifying miles. Does anyone know how this works?

I belive they grant you lifetime "Executive Platinum" status.
But do you know the ground rules? i.e. do they go back to when the program started (1986 I think), do they include airlines in the pas that were but are no longer part of the problem. When I call the platinum desk they plead ignorance.

The 1 million points are qualifying points earned on CP and all other airlines which were partners for both accumulation and elite qualification (after this was introduced in early 90s). Points are counted since July 1984 when the program started. As I note in my post to your comments in the AC forum, it will be interesting to see how this is handled when Cdn+ and Aeroplan accounts are merged. By that time, AC will have completed the corporate merger and become owner of CP, and technically of Cdn+. They should count the combined total of Q points/miles, and thus will create a few more "instant millionaires". But they may then move the lifetime SE to 2 million, as AA does. (You get lifetime Platinum at 1 million on AA.)

Interesting fact, I didn't know about this. I started my CP+ membership back in 84 and have no idea of the actual milleage I have accumulated. How do you get it? CP+?

I as curious about my total points too, since I was sure I had accumulated well over 1 million (including hotel, cars, bonuses, Amex transfers, Visa charges, etc). So back in January I emailed Cdn+ asking if they could confirm my total eligible points. It took about two weeks for a reply to come, but they provided the information.
For many years, the monthly statements included this information, but it was dropped some time in the early 90s in favour of just the annual elite qualifying points.

Thanks, the newspapers today announced the formal joining of AC/CP points as of Jan 1, 2001 which was inevitable; however, they mentione nothing about the ground rules for Platinum/Elite combination.
.........nor are you likely to hear from them!
No, they did state that Q-miles would be added together for 2001 qualification.
However there is no million mile level at AC. Since it doesn't exist, I think the simple answer is that CP's disappears.
What is not answered is what AC will do to honour the existing lifetime members at CP.
OK - thanks for that - I take the Globe & Mail which did not mention anything about Q-point amalgamzation.
