I just posted the news release for the Aeroplan/Cdn+ merger on the Air Canada thread. It is something that we all expected/hoped for, I think.

CDN NewsFlash - CANADIAN PLUS TO MERGE WITH AEROPLAN

The Canadian Plus program, one of the most successful in the industry, will merge with Air Canada’s Aeroplan program on Jan. 1, 2001.

Canadian Plus has been operating since 1984, and has grown over the years to become one of the largest programs of its kind, with some
three million members. Head-to-head competitors for the past 16 years, Aeroplan and Canadian Plus are taking the next logical step forward to combine the two loyalty programs for the benefit of our customers.

Unless Canadian Plus members choose otherwise, Aeroplan will be absorbing all of Canadian’s members and will set up Aeroplan
accounts for members who don’t currently have them. All remaining Canadian Plus points will be fully converted to Aeroplan miles on a
one-to-one basis. This means, for example, someone holding 50,000 Canadian Plus points as of Dec. 31, and 20,000 Aeroplan miles as of Dec. 31 will have a combined account of 70,000 Aeroplan miles when the programs are merged on Jan. 1, 2001.

“This is great news for our members as they have told us all along that they were concerned about their points, and wanted to see their full value honoured,” said Kari Grist, Director, Marketing Programs. “We have been working hard since January with this goal in mind and it is very exciting to see the beginnings of a single customer loyalty program emerge that incorporates the best of benefits, partners and rewards for members.”

All Canadian Plus qualifying points and segments earned this year will also be combined with Aeroplan qualifying miles and segments earned during the same period. This total will be used to determine Aeroplan tier status for 2001 (effective March 1, 2001). For the interim period between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 2001, members will receive equivalent status in Aeroplan and the benefits associated with that status. In March of this year, Canadian Plus and Aeroplan took the first step to creating a single program by unifying their qualifying levels.

Personalized letters outlining the transfer of account information and point balances are being mailed to Canadian Plus members this
month. Canadian Plus members will have until September 30 to verify their existing Aeroplan accounts, or that they do not have Aeroplan accounts in which case new Aeroplan accounts will be set up for them. How members can respond will be outlined in the members’
personalized letters. Details of the new Aeroplan account will be forwarded in December.

Members can continue to use their Canadian Plus memberships until the expiration of the program on December 31. While Canadian Plus
points can currently be redeemed on Air Canada flights, members will not be able to redeem from the combined totals of both Canadian Plus points and Aeroplan miles until the first week of January, 2001.

767300ER: The change to 100K qualification for ExecPlat was introduced at the beginning of this year, so is not new.

However, I cannot seem to find a direct answer to this question:

"Old" red, grey and black upgrade stickers are good for use until Feb 28/2001 by Cdn+ elites. If we are to all become Aeroplan elites as of January 1st, 2001 (and cannot use our cards as of that date), how do we go about making use of these upgrades? Are we in a Catch 22 situation? I guess that's why there is the vague answer to: "What will happend to my Cdn+ membership benefits as of Janurary 1st, 1001? All benefits are being reviewed..."

Good news too, that the Gold stays at 35K. This suggests that AC E will not rise as some of us had feared.
