Hi guys...

I probably should have asked this BEFORE I cancelled my Platinum card, but can you think of any reason to keep the Platinum when I've had Centurion for over a year?

Just curious... I cancelled Plat today, and can't imagine why I'd need it again...

Anyone?

That's probably why he cancelled it!

You did the right thing by cancelling Plat.

There is no reason to keep a Platinum card.
The Centurion includes all Platinum benefits. Centurion cardholders may also apply for supplementary Platinum cards.

When I got the Centurion and called to cancel the Platinum, the agent told me that there were still some Pending Points on the Platinum Card. She told me that if I cancelled the card immediately, the points would evaporate.

The plan was to stop using the card immediately, to transfer any automatic billings from vendors (which she did for me, one by one) and to cancel after all points had been posted.

Since there were about 18,000 points on standby, I'm glad she took the time to explain it and help.

WHAT KIND of points did you mean?

mr points? these are not card specific, if you register the centurion to MR and cancel your platinum, all your points will be there.

about the other things, if you have mobile phone bills etc runnin on plat, even if you cancel, they will book it from that card.

so if the points were MR points, you wasted money. if it were other points you may be right.

Pelikan-

Yes, the points that already posted to MR are mine to keep. However (at least here in the US), there is a two month delay between the time the charges are made and the points post to your account. If you go to the AMEX web site and checkyour MR points, you will see the total, but you will also see an entry for Pending Points. They only become mine to use once they are finally posted to the account.

Funny, my Starwood AMEX points post to my SPG account the day the billing period ends. For some reason, AMEX MR has a delay. It really doesn't matter to most of us unless you are about to cancel the card they were charged on. As I said, if that's the case, wait until all points have posted.

get a personal "green" card, so you can use it to be low key if you want to.
