With the merger??(takeover) of Canadian Airlines Int'l. by Air Canada, will Canadian
Plus members eventually be shut out of the Air Canada Aeroplan program, instead of having their CPlus miles merged into the Aeroplan program as has been announced would
happen if the United, US Airways merger goes
through? Right now we are told that we can
use CP or AC ff miles for either of AC's or
CP's flights, which is fine, but when the takeover of CP by Ac is completed later this
year, will the CPlus miles that are still in
the member's account be directly transferred into their Aeroplan account? I e-mailed this
question to Canadian, and they came back with
a very vague answer, about how we could use
either mileage for AC or CP, but no direct
answer about merging the two ff programs after the merger is complete later this year.
Needless to say, if CPlus miles are lost after the merger, there will be a lot of unhappy travelers out there.
Any thoughts on the above??????
P.S--Really liked the old paint job on the
CP planes, coupled with their excellent
service. The new hybrid paint job confuses
their planes, and everyone else--their 737's
don't know who they're flying for!!!

Welcome to these forums, bj21. You have nothing to worry about with respect to losing your Cdn+ points when the carriers do merge formally in the future. Robert Milton, AC CEO is on record saying that nobody will lose their points over the deal. I expect Cdn+ to be phased out later this year and if you also have an Aeroplan account, the miles/points from both will be combined into your Aeroplan account. Don't lose sleep over it.
