From a reliable source - I have heard that beginning Aug 2. SQ will add ORD as a gateway. The flights are:

SQ027 B772ER Tu/Th/Sa ORD 1945 AMS 1050+1/1200+1 SIN 0655+1
SQ028 B772ER Mo/We/Fr SIN 2335 AMS 0640+1/08151 ORD 1010+1

The flights will operate with 2 classes only J & Y. Rumor is that this will be the new enhanced J product for SQ.

Strange - seem to remember reading on some other board that the flights would operate to SIN via Munich.

We'll see ... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Mikefly, thank you for sharing such an exciting news! hhhmmn, wonder what they mean by an enhanced J class? Would it be a narrow singlebed like BA?? Well, CX seems to be holding something special in the bag and I just can't wait to see the cat of them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Does that mean that they drop (or reduce) the SIN-AMS-EWR route.

Can't imagine that they have 2 flights to AMS daily.

They could be going through AMS because of the air treaties. After all, 5th freedom doesn't exist everywhere -- especially not with the US.

Not really true. There are lots of 5th freedoms. Some I can think of are Air India, Kuwait Air and others ex-JFK to Europe. A few airlines have 5h freedom between the U,S, and Canada though not many exercise it: QF and CX currently do. BA had but no longer uses the rights along with AR & TG & VASP. I'm sure some of the Brazilean and Japanese carriers have 5th freedom frm the U.S.

SQ would really love 5th freedom ex-LHR and go to the U.S. U.S. govt. is for it but the U.K. govt. vehemently objects on behalf of BA (and VS?) The Netherlands does have an Open Skies agreement with the U.S. which may have something to do with it.
