I am currently a gold member and am considering upgrading to platinum, in part for the FHR program. I am going on a string of trips and would like to know what prices for these hotels are. Is there any way to check if I'm not platinum. Thanks

You can check FS rates at there web site be entering the rate code FHR. This gives the FHR rate for the selected FS hotel. THat is the only way I know of Checking a FHR rate , and only at FS.

jchand means Ritz-Carlton, not FS. He is right, though - you can see the discounted rate plus details of your 'special amenity' on the RC website. All FHR hotels also have free breakfast, upgrade if available and late check-out. Test it out by looking at dates a few weeks ahead as FHR rooms are limited.
Note that FHR hotels are pretty much all five star establishments. If you spend a lot of time in five star hotels then you will get money's worth out of Plat. If you normally stay in four star properties or below then you will not get much out of FHR (except, in some cases, you will get a five star for what you would normally pay for a four star).

Yes Sorry I mean R C . What an Idiot, I was only looking at the R C web site at FHR and AXC rates this morning, god knows why I typed FS.

I spend about 10-12 nights/year at five star properties when I vacation in Europe that year (for at least one of my 2 major trips) and 14-18 nights when I make a big trip to Asia as I stay in nicer hotels there. In Europe, I stay nearly exclusively in top-level inns, especially those with expensive restaurants attached (actually the rooms are connected to the restaurants). Another thing I found is that I have to pay 175 for each additional card. I have my mothers and wife on the AMEX Gold Rewards Plus, so maybe I should stick to that so as not to have my 175x3 extra charge.
Thanks for the help!

You can have sub-cardholders with gold cards at ~$30 each.

This has certainly been discussed here before, but I thought I'd just add:
Rates under the FHR program are, 9 times out of 10 more expensive than the lowest available rate, but sometimes the value of the amenities (particularly if they include something as tangible as a lunch for 2 for up to $50) makes the FHR premium rate worthwhile.
HOWEVER, sometimes, you will find that the FHR rate including amenities, is actually cheaper than the lowest available rate. Case in point: Four Seasons Chiang Mai in Jan '05 -- FHR $360; LAR $400. AND I get free b'fast daily, room upgrade, lunch for 2 one time up to $80, etc!!!
BIG SCORE. ^ ^

Do you know if there is a rate code to check the FHR rate for the Hilton Hotels under the program as well?
Thanks

If you would like to PM me and tell me a few hotel names and dates I could call to find out their rates so you'd have an idea as to how much you could save. I think the FH&R program is just fantastic. I've found it to be less expensive then without the FH&R rate

Perhaps I am just lucky, but I find FHR cheaper 3 times out of 4.
Latest strike: Palais de la Mediterrannee in Nice for Easter weekend. Lowest rate offered by hotel for Exec Seaview Room with b/fast: Euro 450. Amex FHR rate: Euro 384 with noon check-in, late check-out, 'local gift' and potential full suite upgrade.
That said, I also just booked the new Four Seasons Hampshire (UK) for May and FHR came out higher. £335 direct inc taxes, Amex wanted £315 + 17.5% VAT. I get a feeling Amex may be wrong about the VAT as outside London it is very, very rare (and indeed illegal) to be quoted a price excluding the tax unless I am a corporate customer.

Now that we're onto the topic of rate codes, what are the other major ones? Starwood? Mandarin? Peninsula?
