Hi!

I'll be stranded in PHL for a night in January as my flight from SDQ is coming in to late for a transfer to ORD. Does anybody have a good suggestion to a cheap and comfortable way of staying one night in PHL? Does USair offer any good rates at the airport hotels?

And another qestion, is there any lounge for *G passengers in SDQ?

Thank you for your reply!!

Karl

By far the most convenient place to spend the night at PHL is the airport Marriott hotel, which is connected directly to the terminal via a covered walkway. I've seen rates as low as $99 on weekends, and about twice that during the week.

You can also try bidding on Priceline for an airport hotel. Many people have gotten the Marriott (3-star) for $60 or so. Two-star hotels with free shuttle to the airport may be had for even less.

As far as I know, US does not offer any special rates at PHL hotels to passengers in transit.

Avoid the PHL Airport Econo Lodge. I just stayed there last Monday. They had a good rate (AAA rate $56), but they lost my rez, and then raised the rate on me twice. They had good HS Internet, but Abou and Habib who run the place have no clue about customer service. Run like the wind! The Airport Quality Inn is run by the same gang.

Marriott is good, a lot of folks who went to RF stayed there. I had a freebie at the Fairfield Inn by the airport. It was fine, just don't ask the staff for directions to the hotel. ;)

US, like most airlines, deals with a company called something like Airport Accommodations. Basically they can give you a sheet of paper torn off a pad, and you call and 800 number and tell them what airport you are in. The res agent will then tell you what hotels/rates they have available. If you want to book, they will ask for your name (will not ask for credit card) and give you a conf#. Depending on the hotel, you might actually need to present the paper you got from US. It is called a distressed passenger rate. I don't know however that there is any guarantee or likelyhood you would get the Marriott. These hotel rooms are technically for pax who misconnected or missed their flights, but I don't think anyone would have any trouble getting one of these slips of paper if you just go up to an agent and say "I need a hotel room," etc.

I do know that when US pays for a hotel, at least as of about 6 months ago, they do not have a contracted rate at PHL with the Marriott. They did put me up in the Hilton which was a fine basic hotel w/a shuttle from the airport.
