US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - ABC Nightline segment focused on US Airways

Did anybody see the segment on tonight's Nightline? The show began with a very detailed look at US and JetBlue, highlighting the differences between both operations and why one is saddled with high costs versus the other.

The show went on to detail fares and how the low fares don't cover the airline's cost. Market conditions (internet availablity to find low fares) have forced the drop in revenue, even though planes seem to be full.

It really puts the situation of legacy carrier versus LCC into perspective.

although their apparent "expert" on what to do with frequent flyer miles on bankrupt carrierr made a few errors.

He suggested those with US Dividend Miles can redeem their mileage for flights on Northwest.

He also said that miles redeemed on partner carriers will 100% be honored. I dont think anyone really knows whether a partner carrier would honor an award from a defunct carrier...

However, it did highlight how difficult it is for the legacies to survive...

right now it's the highlighted story under the 'VIDEO' heading(right side of page). If not, click 'view complete list' and it should be there for a little while.

For those people who have high-speed internet through Comcast.net.....the Nightline story can be viewed under 'The Fan'. Click on 'watch list' and select 'ABC news' and then done. After the wheel comes back - only showing ABC news - look for the picture of US Airways jets. if you don't see it, click on 'SPIN'. This will bring up additional stories.
:D

An "Expert" going on a program like "Nightline" should be at least prepared enough to know airline alliances. Even if he had been referring to US's old Asia award with NW, that's long gone. And, yet another pundit "assuring" people that a partner mileage award will be honored in the event of a liquidation. A little irresponsible.

Overall, I thought the piece was pretty good. There are a lot of harsh realities for US.
