Hi,

Maybe everybody already knows this, but I was playing around with the American Express website (in the US) and if you go to the apply page for an Amex Gold or Green, and then leave the page by pressing "back" or browsing to another page, a little pop-up will offer you that card first year without fee. :)

Since I was going to apply for the gold card anyway, it was a nice incitement. It seems to work for all variants of Green and Gold, but not for Platinum. The pop-up will still come up but it won't offer fee free :(

thanks for the tip, very helpful indeed.

in germany, you get free newspapers or for example a cashback of 80usd and 1 year free gold card.

as amex pays much money for new cardholders, many companies in internet offers, some nice deals.

for example. get one amex card + 1 playstation etc. etc

you should search for anything similar, i think this will be the same in us.???

In the UK it appears they are doing mailings too.

My housemate with a pretty lousy credit record was sent an application by Amex for fee free Gold for first year and with a 2000 MR sign up bonus. She seemed outraged that after a year she'd have to spend £95 to have a Gold card when she can have a Gold coloured debit card
