The only four stars in PL are in the White House Downtown area and the Convention Center - Capitol Hill area.

BFT says that the possibilities at Capitol Hill include
*JW Marriott
Capitol Hilton
*Renaissance Mayflower
The Madison
Sofitel Lafayette Square
The Willard Intercontinental

and possibilities at the Convention Ctr include;
Loews L'Enfant Plaza
*Grand Hyatt Washington
Henley Park Hotel

There are links at BFT for most of these hotels or you can research them on your own. If you bid, the likely 4* you will get I have marked with an asterisk, with the JW Marriott as the most likely.

Best of luck,

Thanks, when I click on Dulles and Fairfax, it gives me the choice for a 4* selection, does that mean that I will still end up downtown, even if I dont click it?

NO. When you click ONLY DULLES, you will get only Dulles.
You should still read BFT, some hotels a little outside of a given PL area .. I remember Barcelona had such a discrepancy..

After checking BFT, it seems if I select only Dulles, I can only select 3*, there are many options. Any recent experiences...I hope I get a nice place! I put in 52 just to give it a shot and got rejected so I have to wait 72 hours now:(

There is a 4* property in Fairfax -- the Hyatt Fair Lakes -- which is why if you ask for a 4* property in either Dulles or Fairfax you get the 4* option.

3* Dulles is going to produce the Dulles Hyatt, Dulles Hilton, Dulles Marriott, Sheraton Reston, or a couple other properties. None luxurious or special, but all more or less decent.

You'll probably get a pretty cheap bid accepted. Do check biddingfortravel.com.

The Reston Herndon properties are closer to IAD than Fairfax.

Reston is roughly 7-8 miles from IAD
Herndon about 4 miles
Fairfax would be about 10 + miles.. fairfax city has quite a large area and some areas are even further away..

Fair Lakes Hyatt first.. is a miserable property IMHO and is about 10 miles from IAD

I got the Hyatt Dulles twice via PL. The first time was July 2-4 with a $40 bid and November 27 with a $43 bid. The two rooms I have had at the hotel were comparable to a studio room at a Residence Inn (without the kitchen). The hotel is actually 5 miles from IAD. I had a car each time, and parking was free. The hotel does have a courtesy van, but I don't know if a guest could use it to be taken anywhere besides IAD. There are no restaurants within walking distance, except the one in the hotel. There's also a coffee kiosk near the front desk, as well as free high-speed wireless internet in the lobby.

Overall, I would be happy to get the Hyatt again, especially for $40.

Are there airport shuttles to hotels in Fairfax from IAD? Am I crazy to hope for something under $75 for a 3-4 store at/near IAD during the week?
