I am booked on US 894 PHL-FRA on Dec. 26. Currently booked in 3A,3B. Flying on an award ticket. My companion is on a coach ticket upgraded with miles. Any thoughts on getting seats changed to Row 1?

is the key- on PHL to FCO I got there early, got on the list (they didn't upgrade me at check-in) and waited around at the gate. As soon as the gate agents arrived, I got in line and asked nicely if row 1 was available- got the window seat all the way ont the right. This was on a gold preferred upgrade.

It will be harder for two people though!

Is row 1 selectable when using online check-in?

in July, we booked two 80K envoy award seats for next May, and were given row 1 in both directions at ticketing. I asked if this was still scheduled to be the A330, and was assured yes, the FCO flight is a 330. I'm CP, but so are a large number of folks booking these awards who don't get it quite as easily. Anyway, we're still showing 1A-B in both directions.

After wondering if they'd still be flying in May, I thought about canceling this reservation and trying to book some type of *A award to "protect" my miles....but I never made the move. If we lose the miles, we lose the miles. Otherwise, we have the opportunity to take this wonderful airline and aircraft. :)

I tried on an upgraded SJU-PHL on the 330 and it did not let me choose row one using online check-in (I'm Gold). I had called earlier to try and get it and was told it was reserved for CPs or paying 1st class passengers. Best advice is get to the gate early and request.

Ditto all the answers. If you are CP or paying they will assign you Row 1 otherwise they will not. Ask at check in and again at the gate. I have gotten Row 1 assigned at the gate as a GP. With 2 it will be harder but it doesn't hurt to ask and many people don't know to.

First of all welcome to flyertalk and the US forum. You will find some of the most knowledgeable people in the world here when it comes to anything about points and miles. We look forward to seeing you here often.

The answers given above are correct, so get to the airport early and ask. You may also want to consider keeping row three on the way back. I personally prefer row 1 going over and row 3 coming back. Unless you are planning on sleeping on the way back, I find the seats in the second cabin more comfortable for just sitting and watching a movie, etc.

I (CP) was able to book an online award in Row 1.

I got myself and girlfriend (GP) in on the same ITIN and put it on hold, then called to to have the award split between her and my accounts. We were able to keep those assignments in Row 1 using this method.

I would like book open-jaw tickets in row 1 using my account (CP) for my parents with no US status. I can book the transatlantic portion from the website and assign the seats.

Can I call DM res. and add the extra segments without losing the seat assignments?

Good Question,

In the same instance I mentioned, I also added additional segments and a stopover ! The agent wasn't willing to do that at first, but a quick Jedi Mind Trick helped.

Just make sure you HOLD the reservation online, then call to ticket it, explaining the situation - good luck !

I'm pretty sure you (the CP) have to be flying with them to be seated in row 1.

You are right. I just checked and at least 1 passenger must be CP. I guess the only solution is to split the reservation and cancel the award for the US1 after all the seats have been assigned...

Just flew from MCO - PHL - MAN.

Just a basic ticket upgraded with a space available upgrade at checkin in Orlando MCO. We got row 1 cleared in Orlando.

Im a *G, my wife is *S, so you dont have to be CP to get row 1, I guess it depends on the check in agent.

Envoy was pretty full, just a few spare seats.
