I am flying LH to JNB and connecting to a SA regional flight to VFA- booked in business class on SA segments under SA flight number. Have to spend 3 hours in JNB. On return from LLW, same story- almost 3 hours in JNB before connecting to FRA with LH in F.
Any suggestions as to which lounge I should/ can use? I have no status with SA, but am a BD Gold if that helps.

LH SEN / SA Business class tickets have access to the SA Business lounge (South African Airways Baobab Lounge) in International departures. I am sure if you show them your collection of *Gold cards, you will get in no problem.
You can also check the Lufthansa website (http://www.lufthansa.co.uk/fly/uk/en/inf/0,4974,0-0-1062790,00.html) for their lounge directory. If you fly F you will get access to the SA First (Cycad) lounge at JNB. Very nice indeed!

thank you floris_fra. I did not know that I can access SA lounges with my SEN card/ other *A golds (except BD which says I can use SA lounges). I assume I can use the SA F lounge while transiting to VFA via JNB as well (flying F FRA-JNB with LH, then C with SA JNB-VFA).

See here for the SAA Lounges (http://ww2.flysaa.com/in_flight_information/Lounges_Cabins/za_lounges_cabins_intro_frameset.html). I would give SAA a quick call to find out where exactly you can go, but I would think that on a F ticket on LH you will be able to use the arrivals facilities. Worst case they'll make you sit in the SAA Business Class lounge.
Have fun in Vic Falls, go bungy jumping - it's a rush!

You do not need to a member to access SAA's lounges. Business Class passengers automatically can enter the lounges. Just show your boarding pass. If you show them a Star Alliance card instead, they might just stare at you. SAA is not part of the alliance yet.

If you're connecting to LH, then you go to the LH appointed lounge. Not SAA's.

That is what I thought- however, BDG passengers can use SAA lounges, I don't know which lounge.

The major criteria as to which lounge to go to would be the possibility of having a shower, which could be a welcome luxury before our JNB-VFA flight after an overnight journey. Do the SAA business lounge or LH SEN lounge have a shower? My wife is a BA gold, BA lounge is another option, if they have showers.

According to the LH website, the LH appointed lounge at JNB for SEN is the SAA lounge!

Yep- I noticed that later :D. LH SEN has access to SAA business lounges only, but since we have F class LH ticket on the return we might be allowed in the F lounge...

The SA arrivals lounge at JNB not only has very nice showers, but plenty of them too. You have to go through immigrations and customs to get to the lounge, though. It is on the mezzanine right above the arrivals hall.
