[I know this isn't "Canadian" but it's "AC competition"].

Ad in today's Ottawa Citizen: Royal (www.royal.ca) starts 2 flights Monday-Friday Ottawa-Toronto, from $238 return, starting May 3.

They also advertise Halifax via Toronto and Winnipeg via Toronto starting in June. Website doesn't show Ottawa yet so I don't know if there will be decent connections anywhere else, e.g. YVR.

Their slogan in the ad is "The Official Airline of Business People" but on the web it's "The Official Airline of Smiling People". The amenities as described on their site don't sound _too_ disgusting (free drink, free headset, meal) although they don't say if there's a minimum flight length for those.

There's no business class and no seat pitch listed on their site. I'm not familiar with A310 or 757 seating, but they have two 737-200's ("operated by Royal Cargo") with 122 economy seats. CP's 737-200's have 88+12 so Royal's seat pitch must be typical charter in the back.

Maximum 20kg of checked luggage and maximum 1 piece cabin luggage, max 5kg.

However, the A310 has a 3-3-3 configuration. It is simply crazy to see an A310 with a capacity for 264 passengers. Anyway, I guess some competition is better than none.
