I booked a US airways flight through expedia, A319 is the equipment. The system allowd me to assign myself and hubby seats. We both are in bulkhead seats 4B/E, middle seats, not together.
On the seating plan page the plan had stars on the window and aisle seats from rows 4 back to about 10. Are the seats in these rows more desirable for some reason, seatguru.com shows them to be regular coach seats. I understand that the stars indicate that these seats are reserved for premium passengers. Why?
This will be my first flight with US, I am a BA girl and I am curious to see how different domestic flying is in the States is compared to the UK.
Thanks for your input in advance.

The only thing "premium" about these seats is that they're at the front of the Y Cabin.

So perhaps hubby and I will be able to get bulkhead seats together at the airport? I can understand the bulkheads being more desirable, but not 5A and the other window seats, what's that all about?
Thanks

Unless you REALLY want bulkhead seats and REALLY want to sit apart from each other, I would change seats ASAP.
The bulkhead seats give you no storage room and to get something to work on you'll have to get up out of your seat, climb over the person next to you and get it out of the overhead bin. My advice is just to get two seats together or an aisle and a window and hope no one sits in the center. I do this on airlines that I have no status on and sit all the way in the back so I will definitely have overhead space and decreasing the chances for someone in the center seat.
They are only premium because you get off the airplane quicker.

Bogwoppit, it's possible that US's computer system may kick you and hubby out of the bulkhead seats if you have no status, possibly reassigning you to center seats farther back. Check your reservation on virtuallythere.com to see your seat assignments.
Not a big deal, since as others have mentioned the bulkhead on an A319 gives you no underseat storage room and little legroom.
The most glaring difference between a shorthaul domestic flight on US as opposed to one on BA: Pretzels instead of an All Day Deli meal and $5 for wine or beer :td: Otherwise, coach is coach.

I cannot recall the exact timing, but over the summer, US Airways enabled preferred seating (bulkhead, exit row, etc) functionality on www.usairways.com while you are booking your ticket. [Prior, these seats needed to be requested at their Reservations line.] I thought there was language indicating that other (non-US Airways) booking engines---Expedia, Orbitz, Cheaptickets--- would not have access to these preferred seats. Instead, the customer had to come direct to US Airways to book.
Does anyone know these restrictions?

Hello FT community,
New here, been trolling for a few weeks - finally decided to sign up.
Anyhow - my last trip on US, I purchased my tixs on expedia, put my UAL MP # in, and I was able to access all the premium seating and confirm them via expedia.
Happy Holidays.

If you book a ticket on Expedia, you can SEE and I believe even select the Premium Seating (it is marked as such with a *) but it says in fine print something along the lines of "you may not qualify for premium seating and you will be re-assigned if you select seats for which you do not have access".

I did book on expedia, when I got to the select your seat bit I at first selected 4B/C, but it told me that if I chose seats marked with a star(Indicating premium seating it said) that I would have to prove my status at the airport. So, I reselected the 2 middle seats in the bulkhead row as they had no star on them,(This sounds like Dr Suess's Sneetches tale!!!) None of the middle seats were highlighted as premium seating, so I wouldn't be bumped for that, but I am sure there are 10,000 other reasons why I could be bumped. My first flight is on a Canadian regional jet, how much more cramped could this be? LOL
On Expedia the whole premium thing was not really expalined, I booked a regular coach fare and expected just that, and as bulkheads were available I just took them, I don't really care about storage as this is a pleasure trip. And I am with hubby 7 days a week and we are going away together, I'd rather have no person reclining in my face than have hubby snoring next to me, he can snore next to some poor road warrior instead.
$5 US per drink though what is that all about, I understand I also can buy my own meal on board. The flight is not long, and as always I'll try for exit rows at the airport.
Thanks for all your input, always good to ask those who know.
