US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Have I dealt my chances of using a DS0084 a significant blow???

I have a forthcoming LGW-PHL-LAS-PHL-LGW trip in the next week for which I wish to us a DS0084 for the round trip.

Being aware that they are 'space available' upgrade vouchers I have been regularly accessing the seatmaps on usair.com by going through the motions of a reservation when at the last step cancelling rather than purchasing.

Except that I made a big screw-up last week. I actually clicked the purchase button for a unrestricted envoy seat! I had deliberately given the card number of a credit card that has a low limit and of course the card company declined the transaction.

However, looking at existing reservations on usair.com they have confirmed the seat allocation for this flight.

I have just rang US to ensure that this reservation has been cancelled. The agent informed me that because it had been declined no ticket would be issued. Not that the reservation had been cancelled but just that they would not issue a ticket for the flight.

My fear is that while I am at the airport waiting for my upgrade to clear, on their screen they will have me on the waitlist whilst also having my name as an envoy no-show creating the possiblility that they think I have reserved a seat in envoy to ensure that space is available for me to use the voucher.

FWIW, with only a couple of days to go there are well over 20 envoy seats still available and without my screw-up I would be confident of the upgrade.

Will they hold this mistake against me?

For future reference you can cancel a usairways.com flight within 24 hours on line for no fee.

How do you check seat availability on usairways.com out of interest?

I did think of the 24hr cancellation but you need a ticket number to do this and I have never had one.

You get to access seat maps when making a reservation on usair.com. On the screen which asks for your card details there is a 'select seats' option

No need to go through all that. Try this:

Yeah, I know about that but its problem is that it will only tell you that at least 7 seats are available whereas the seat map shows 25 free seats and allows me to sweat a little less.

Anyway, my problem (well, one of them at least :) ) has been solved. I checked my existing reservation on usair.com and that now states that the reservation is now cancelled and on the seat map the seat that I had been allocated has been freed.

Actually, it will let you look at the seat map. Simply select a flight and then on the next page choose "Select Seats" which is less than an "enter" click away from a purchase as it is on usair.com!

The Amex travel site (using the old ITN engine) will allow you to book and look at the seat map to select your seats BEFORE you purchase the ticket or even give them a name or credit card account. This is what I always use to avoid any similar problem.

This site uses the same engine, and requires fewer clicks (as it starts on the booking page).
