Starwood Preferred Guest - Westin Dallas - Construction noise!

I recently stayed at the Dallas Westin City Centre, I had booked 2 rooms in advance.
When we checked in, we were shown to our rooms. We had just arrived on the flight from London and wanted to sleep before our meeting that evening.
When we got to our rooms, there was a loud noise all around from the construction in the hotel. You could hardly hear yourself talk, let alone rest and sleep. It was 4pm, we were informed that the noise would continue until 6pm. There was no way we could rest, so we were really tired for our meeting that night. The noise started again at 8.30am thee following morning, again there was absolutely no chance of sleep once the construction had begun.

I find it unbelievable that we were not informed in advance that there was construction going on in the hotel. It wasn’t just a small noise, there was a large din throughout the hotel I was on the 10th floor, my colleague on the 2nd floor, and we both were disturbed by the noise. There is no way we would have stayed in the hotel had we known of the construction, we would have stayed in another Starwood property in Dallas. It was very important for us to be able to rest on arrival at the hotel, and we were unable to do so.

I am a Platinum SPG member and stay with Starwood frequently. I am also a travel agent and book many clients into Starwood properties. I am seriously unimpressed by my experiences and will strongly consider an alternative hotel group in the future as a result of my experiences at the Westin. When I complained to the reception, they said there was nothing they could do and merely offered me a complimentary breakfast, which I found most unsatisfactory compensation.

I was also not offered any Platinum amenity or bonus.

What do you suggest?

I was offered 2000 points as compensation - do you think that is satisfacotry? I do not!

Not sure . . . but you are on your way to a good letter to send to SPG as well as the property. I would agree that there should have been some sort of a disclaimer when you booked your reservation - and although the property tried to mitigate the disturbance by limiting it to the daylight hours, I would argue that it was completely unacceptable since there was no notification given. Good luck! ^
