Canadian Airlines Plus - 10k Q-mile upgrade packs

Interesting. Got my first 10k Q-mile upgrade pack of the new membership year yesterday. Pack was dated 3rd March, but it was still the old, good red 500-mile stickers.

Maybe they are just clearing old stocks....

Anybody else had the same experience?

What's this about ..instead of getting upgrade stickers, one can opt for 2500 miles?

No, after every 10k Q-miles I get 4 red 500 mile upgrade stickers. I assumed after 1 March these would mutate into the new white 500 mile stickers with the fare-to-upgrade restrictions, but they didn't. The pack is identical to the ones I received last year (and earlier in 2000).

This means either:

1) They are still giving out unrestricted upgrade certificates for Q-miles.

2) They intend to restrict the fare classes for all stickers.

I am Gold, Celestar340 if that makes any difference. I get the feeling that there is some difference in what EPs and Golds get per 10k?

Yes.. EP and GOLD does have a difference this year.

For every 10K, EP can chose i) 4x500 miles stickers, ii) 2xBlue SW stickers iii)2500 bonus miles.

It would seem that the 2xblue is the best choice out of all.

I am sure they are still clearing the old inventory out. If they still give it out, they have to honour it according to the rules. CPlus already sent out a letter to its member saying that they will honour the old stickers according to the old rules.

I would have if I were you Travellin_man... Especially with all those over capacity back then and I remember they even had YYZ - HNL for $499 as Web Specials!

But again... who would have guess that those changes are coming.

In regards to the stickers received after March 1, I got some and it's still those red ones. This would further prove that they printed so much last year in anticipation that they would be in use til 2001. So i would guess that we will still be getting those for a while.

Back to the old Phantom passenger theory... Seems like the media is starting to notice it as some people said it's harder to get some seats after they integrated their schedules which of course we know what's going on.

Do we have to start over with the 10k count at the start of the year, or is it on an on-going basis? The guide says "For each 10,000 qualifying points, you will receive four 500-mile stickers, which are valid within North America".

Isletraveller - the 10K Q-Mile Threshold Upgrade stickers are accumulated from March to February of every membership cycle. I also squeaked through with another set dated February 23 and they were all red ones! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

On another note, I just had my first advance upgrade request experience on the Gold line with someone who was on top of things. I was asked which colour upgrades I would be using and was given my seats all in about 10 seconds (this weekend for YYC-YYZ via YWG).

I hope all agents are as knowledgeable as this guy was.
