US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - A heartfelt thank you

View Full Version : A heartfelt thank you

I want to thank the members of this forum and the Flyertalk community as a whole for all the cards, PM’s , emails, goodies, visits to our home, offers of beach houses to spend some time recovering in, etc, etc and most importantly the thoughts and prayers over the past three weeks.

As many of you know I developed a near fatal case of DVT and then a saddle embolus three weeks ago. When you come face to face with a slim chance of living, the way you look at life changes dramatically. Family and friendships take on a much greater importance and become the core of your thoughts. And to that degree this community has been nothing short of wonderful. Many of you I have had the chance to meet and I feel strongly that a life time bond has been developed, and many of you that I have never met have been just as wonderful in your concern. I have simply been amazed at how strong a bond there really is among those who post here. And as I have posted many times, my wife has never understood my addictions to Flyertalk and the FFOCUS cause. But she too has been quite frankly stunned by the out pouring of concern and support. We have even spent an evening or two talking about mileage runs and FT do’s and some of the crazier people who post here.

I’ll probably be posting more than normal over the next couple of weeks as I’m still grounded from flying for a couple of more weeks. The recovery from a second clot in the leg has taken a little longer than expected and so I’m not up and walking much at this point. FT is helping to pass the time.

I do have one request of our moderators. I know this post has nothing to do with miles and points and should be considered off topic but I’m asking you not to move this. I only post to any degree in three forums here and it is to the members of this forum I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks.

And one final thanks to the community here. You are a special group of people and regardless of what Randy Petersen says, you have shown in the last three weeks that it is indeed about more than just points and miles.

Smooch! You are one of the foundations of the US FT, and you are missed when you're not posting.

Uhh dear..."crazier people"??? You told me you mentioned Gretchyn and myself to your wife...hmmm...where's that thread about pulling your cane from beneath you -- just so we don't have repeat our threats? :D

In all seriousness, hope you continue to get well.

Greg, very glad that it was near fatal & not total fatal (uh, think you know what I mean!). You'd be sorely missed. Hang in there & recover fast. Cheers. Sharon

Greg,

I am glad you're feeling better. Take the time to recover completely--don't rush yourself.

Next time I see you I hope you're up and about.

Be well my friend....

Perhaps next time we meet will be in my neck of the woods :)

Best regards,

Art

Greg,

I'm very glad you started this thread in the US forum, and I think it is very appropriate to stay here. You are one of the Founding Fathers of FFocus and its predecessor organization, which calls to mind one very distinct Grateful Dead concert. Your are the embodiment of a true CP -- knowledgeable of the inner workings of US, loyal to a fault (well -- with the possible exception of some flights taken on another airline which shall remain nameless), and most especially -- a member of the Frequent Y/B Fare Buyer's Club!! Get well very soon. US needs your $$$, and your van chauffer services will be needed again at the next FFocus gathering.

While I agree with your sentiments completely, I'm not sure that mentioning Greg and the Grateful Dead in the same sentence is completely appropriate given his current medical condition. :D

Greg,

Glad to hear the good news of your ongoing recovery. Will be looking forward to reading lots of postings as you remain stationary and glued to FT and FFOCUS.

I am uncertain Krispy Kremes would be helpful in this situation :)

All joking aside, best wishes for a speedy and uneventful recovery. I look forward to you holding the PHL groundstaff to the fire again very soon.

Hey, us Tarheels (yes, my domicile is here, not Florida!) are a tough lot, and I know you'll be OK.

I join the others in wishing you a speedy recovery, and please post often here on the US thread as you're one of my favorite posters!

But Greta is on at 10 PM & I have no idea of what time Jerry Springer is on but I think it is on during the day so Greg can watch them all while snacking on KKs and Tastykakes and drinking chocolate milk.

Ok I take this back...perhaps I am one of the crazier people. :D
You see...I went to the grocery store today. I was wearing my Go Fares hat & walked past the Tastykakes (but did not buy any). These two things reminded me I needed to buy chocolate milk. So now I am sitting here at my home desk having just tried chocolate milk with rum (for the first time). Hmmmm...let's just say I won't be having it again any time soon.

Actually, if you had gotten a box of KK's instead, then I'd say you'd gone off the deep end. :p

I found myself in the store today looking at limes and saying, "Gee, those are nice and green. They would go good with bloody marys tonight." Two ended up in my cart.

How long would it take you and the green limes and bloody marys to get to DC if you left now? ;)

longing4piedmont has named my drink the "chorum" :D

Sorry I did not give my best wishes for a speedy recovery sooner. I have been all over the place running into power mad TSA, traffic jams, meetings, but very nice US front line folks. Wish you all the best.

Fellow North Carolinian--

Remember the one silver lining about being sick in the Old North State:

No matter what the day, you can always find an episode of Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, Gober, Floyd, The Darlings, etc. on the tv.

Best wishes on a fast recovery. May the "Hot Now" sign always glow bright red for you.

Actually, Krispy Kremes have a positive short-term sugar high and positive association psychological boost, too, that might be really good for recovery. Krispy Kremes are only deadly in the long run.

Seriously, get well. I only ever met you once, at my crash introduction to this group, and am hoping to run into you and all the other "crazies" again.

That goes for everybody... be healthy... none of that dying stuff!
