Okay, a mundane question. I'm bringing my laptop to Bangkok. I have a converter that I used in China. . . the one with the three holes for the US plug on one side and two round prongs on the other. Does this work in Bangkok?

I think most hotels and apartments have standard U.S. two-slot (polarized) outlets? No need for an adapter.

That round plug you have will likely work. However, if your cord has a regular US plug, it will work everywhere in Thailand

Your adapter will work.

Wall sockets in Thailand take 2 prongs - round or flat like in the US. Business-class hotels like the Conrad and JW Marriott will have 3 prong sockets but many Thai hotels (e.g. Amari) will have only the Thai 2-prong sockets. Whatever the case, Guest services in a 4* hotel and above will be able to provide you an adapter as well for others that use a 3 prong (with ground) US-style laptop brick.

If you are frequent traveller, Radio Shack sells a worldwide socket adapter in a small form factor - drop it into your laptop bag and you never have to worry ever again, wherever you are.
