US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - what to do with 8 hours in CLT?

Due to some wacky routing for a quick Europe weekend/MR I'm going to have about 6 hours to burn at CLT on my outbound trip. Is there anything to do near/around the airport that is worth venturing out, or should I just chill in a lounge somewhere?
I'll be getting there around noon and departing around 8. Thanks!

Errr...i'd try for a priceline hotel room near the airport...privacy..a nap..and a shower will work wonders especially if you are not in envoy.

True.. this is outbound though. Starting at DCA, so I won't be all that tired in CLT.

I think there may still be a thread in the travel forums about what to do when in Charlotte - and some good suggestions were there. Let me suggest a few things:
Take a cab to Downtown Charlotte and see the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, Discovery Place, the Museum of the New South and the small galleries located at the Hearst Tower and in that area. Have lunch at one of the many restuarants in Downtown (for example, Mimosa Grill, Latorre's, Capital Grille, Bistro 100, Coco Osteria, they're all right on or just off of Tryon).
Get a car and visit the Mint Museum or the Charlotte Museum of History, or the arts district around North Davidson Street.
Get a car and trek over to SouthPark - if you're into shopping.
If NASCAR is your thing, rent a car and trek up to Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Tours of Bank of America Stadium are occasionally available.
Find a Krispy Kreme and indulge mightily.
There are a lot of other options - you may want to take a look a the Chamber of Commerce's website (http://www.charlottechamber.com ) or see Visit Charlotte's site (http://www.visitcharlotte.com/ ).
And you can always just hang out at one of the clubs at the airport - although that may get old after a few hours.

Eat lots of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and then hit the bulk candy store on the way to the commuter concourse!

I have the same situation, only I have a 12-hour layover. Does anyone know how/where I can get a day hotel room in Charlotte? Do all hotels rent day room? How much do they charge (relative to nightly rates)?
Any other CLT suggestions from US Air veterans?

Hang out at the nice US Airways club in the center of the action. Use combinations of the coffee packets to invent your own drinks. Go around handing the drinks out like you work there. Make enough money from tips to eat at the new BBQ joint in the main food court.

Also, be on the look out for yellow flyertalk luggage tags (that you can buy from the FT store). Or better yet, just post the date that you will be in the Club on the rendezvous thread. Before our London flight, steves, his friend, and I got together in the club as a result of posting in the rendezvous thread at the top of this forum.

This endorsement from l4pi is brought to you by the Krispy Kreme store, food court, CLT airport. KK is THE breakfast choice of l4pi. What good stuff US doesn't feed you, we will.
It is also brought to you by the Starbuck's coffee stand at the entrance to Concourses A and C/D/E. Starbuck's goes good with those KK's!
And his thumbs up are finally sponsored by Candy Express at the walkway to Concourses D/E. When the KK doesn't provide enough of a sugar high stop by us before getting on one of those barbie jets.

Buy a couple dozen of those magnificent Krispy Kremes, rent a car and drive them over to longing4piedmont's house for a visit. He's at home recuperating and would love the sugar fix (and company)!
