I know this scenario isn't technically a "free re-bid", but I'm thinking that it's almost good enough to take the chance.

I am bidding on a 2* in a region where the only properties are 2* within walking distance (going to a party nearby). However, it's tough to get a free rebid when all other regions are 2* or better.

However, there are a couple of regions that are ONLY 4*/Resort, and I was actually going to be bidding below the $40 minimum that a 4* or Resort would accept.

Unless the hotel listings have changed recently, is this a free re-bid?

I might even run slightly over the $40 mark because I feel very confident that I won't get hit at these high-end resorts, but I know that's just taking my chances.

If you bid for a 4* hotel with a bid under $40, you cannot win a 4* hotel.
However, if you bid for a 2* hotel with a bid under $40, and you are including a zone which has 4* or Resort hotels, you could theoretically win a 4* or Resort hotel by being upgraded.

For example, suppose a certain 4* hotel has a Priceline rate of $35. Priceline will not give it to you for less than $40 if you bid for a 4* hotel. However, if you bid for a lesser-star hotel at $35, Priceline may upgrade up to that hotel.

Of course the odds of this are low in most cases, because few 4* hotels have Priceline rates that are that low.
