I wanna' buy the Motorola RAZR V3. Anyone know of a place on-line to buy (unlocked w/o contract) besides expansys-usa.com? Thanks!

Also, if anyone has the phone and hates it, please speak up before I waste the $700. :)

In this case, the prices (from sellers with greater than 0 feedback) isn't cheap enough for me-- in other words I can buy from a real dealer for less than $100 more. In this particular case, eBay 'aint for me! I did bid on one earlier in the day from a guy that looked really "solid" but look at some of those sellers... cellphones on eBay can be a bit dicey, IMHO.

T H A N K S Some of those I ran across from Google-- others were new to me.
Well, thanks to those links, it looks like expansys-usa is the cheapest ($699 or $739 w/ bluetooth headset-- I'll get it that way.) They aren't usually the cheapest, but they are nice to deal with and pretty reputable, IME.
Buying for Cingular wouldn't be my first choice cause I assume it would be SIM-locked.

I've bought every GSM phone in the last 4 years from ebay (I think 10 at last count), never had a problem. Deal with someone with more than 50 feedbacks, use paypal and pay with a credit card. You shouldn't have a problem, and if you do, you're protected by paypal and your cc...

I've had mostly good eBay experiences (member since early '99) but this is one of those cases where the price on eBay just isn't much cheaper than the price from a dealer-- not even $100 difference on a $700 item. Plus I had paypal lock up $5000+ of my money earlier in the year and had to file complaints with all three Attorney's General, 3 BBB's and hire a lawyer before paypal (which is owned by eBay) admitted that they had no reason to hold the funds-- I certainly don't want to rely on paypal to protect me-- YMMV. Ever take a look here? http://paypalsucks.com/

I still use and like paypal-- but look to them for "protection"-- not in this lifetime. No way. YMMV, needless to say. And-- there is a lot of fraud on eBay-- more than most people would ever suspect.

In any case I ordered from expansys. Thanks to all for the input.

$685

This is a site that you can get most phones less than what ebay lists... ;)

That is the cheapest "printed" price I've seen-- only a few $$ more than the eBay prices. Although truth be told, the website doesn't inspire much more confidence than some eBay sellers! But I'm sure they are fine-- have you purchased from them? I spent about $15 more (package w/ headset) and ordered from expansys-- which is a very large and established company, so that gives me an extra bit of peace-of-mind. In any case, thanks again for all the input. I'll report back when I get this svelte thing in my hands.

Cingular's world phones come unlocked, so you could try Cingular.

I have the phone and love it! Been using it for a month now and no complaints! I bought it while in Singapore so no online experience in buying this one.

I found this site from Hofo.com.... People have used this site, and I'm told there was no problem.....

Also, I forgot to mention, since I'm under a new contract to ATT/Cingular, I was not eligible for the Cingular $499 promo on the phone. Nice to know they don't lock them though.

That's a fantastic price-- cheaper than most of the eBay auctions. Expansys actually raised the price overnight to $739.95 (from $699 yesterday.)

According to a poster in another thread, around Nov. 1st. Cingular changed their policy and stopped selling unlocked world phones. Haven't verified this myself though.
