Marriott Rewards - finding out my MR number on a Sunday?

Hi all.

Marriott newbie here. I don't stay at Marriott a lot and I don't know my MR number offhand. It's Sunday, I'm catching up on bills, etc. and I wanted to check to see if customer service points for a recent stay posted. I went to marriottrewards.com and you need your MR number to log in. The toll-free number is automated/requires you to know your MR number, and the non-toll-free number is only available Monday to Friday. Gotta say I'm a bit surprised that there doesn't seem to be a way to talk to anybody on a weekend or in the evenings. :td:

Anyhow, any ideas (other than waiting until work and then paying the long distance charges to call them)?

And, are there any promotions where I get something for setting up a username/password? I'm sure I haven't done it yet.

Thanks!

Yes, I have an idea. I assume you kept the folio from your recent stay in the event the points don't post. On that folio is your MR number, it is a 9 digit number that is usually printed near the top of the folio.

There are people to talk to on weekends and evenings but you have to enter your MR number to gain access to them. When you call the 800 number 800-450-4442, choose option 1, then enter your 9 digit MR number, and then press 0 to speak to a MR CSR.

BTW, the time it takes for points to post varies by property. Usually non-US properties take longer, although my last stay was at the Costa Rica Courtyard and the points posted in about 2 days which I think is a record. Usually it takes 1-2 weeks. If after 2 weeks the points for your stay have not posted, call the number above and tell them your points haven't posted and they will have you FAX in a copy of the folio and will credit your stay. It happens rarely, but when it does, once again it has been non-US properties.

Good luck.

Great idea -- I didn't even think of it. ^

The bad news is that the folio says MR # XXXXX1111, ie. the first 5 digits are X'ed out. :td:

There really should be a way to speak with somebody without knowing your MR number. It annoys me that I (a) can't take care of this on the weekend and (b) have to pay for a long distance phone call. What kind of customer service is this?

Are there any Marriott CSRs on this board the way there is on Starwood? :)

Excuse Me!!! You want to rant about how poor the customer service is and you can't find your MR number. They sent you a card with it on it. Is it their fault that you can't find it? This has got to be one of the worst excuses for going off on a company that I have ever heard.

IT IS YOUR FAULT, not theirs.

longing4piedmont,

a little kindness can go a long way........

the poster DOES make two very good points, that Marriott customer service is unavailable on the weekends, and that they do not have a toll-free number.

The poster also correctly noted that the Marriott Rewards #s are now XXXX'd out on the folios, a new practice I believe.

KSinNYC, to respond to your other points, there is no bonus for signing up and getting a password that I know of, nor does Marriott to my knowledge ever offer any such bonus incentives for sign up. And yes, there are a few Marriott reps here, Chris the Marriott Concierge, and socrates (in an unofficial capacity) but they are usually around Mon-Fri.

And......welcome to the Marriott forum!

I agree with everything you say here except for the part about a toll-free number. Marriott does have one for Platinum (and maybe Gold) elite customers. The x'ing out of MR numbers on hotel bills goes back a year or so. Obviously, it prevents people from stealing these numbers from discarded bills, but it also prevents customers from finding their own numbers. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess!

Longing4piedmont, I'm not sure what I said to deserve your nasty answer. I have read many posts on Flyertalk which could be characterized as "rants," and I don't think that my question falls into that category. I asked politely for help, and thanked the person who provided a suggestion. You, on the other hand, seem to be attacking me. That's not really what I would expect from somebody who seems to be a long-time FT member with a significant post count.

I don't usually stay at Marriotts and so I don't carry the card in my wallet. I've memorized my social security number and my Visa number and my American Advantage number, because I use them a lot. The last time I stayed at a Marriott before now was probably a year ago, so no it's not really a number I remember. Sorry if I'm too stupid or lazy for your taste.

Now, regarding my statement... I stick by it. Customer service should be available on weekends (though perhaps not 24/7) and it should be toll-free. I see that you fly US and DL. How would you feel if you were only able to reach them M-F, or if you had to pay to call them? I think you'd be pretty disappointed in their customer service.

Thanks to the other posters who provided helpful information and a kind welcome.

First of all, my apologies to the OP as I was just trying to provide useful information. I was going to provide additional phone numbers for Marriott reservations as they may be able to help you but I thought the folio would have the information you needed. BTW, the Xing out of MR numbers must occur at the discretion of the property as I am looking at a folio from the San Jose Marriott Courtyard, for the period from 10/22/4 - 10/25/4 and it has my number plainly printed at the top of the folio. This property is a very new property and very nice for a CY I must add.

Now other numbers that may help you:

888-236-2427 Reservations

800-228-2100 Elite Reservations

Call either of these numbers and ask them if they can help. If they are unable to help ask them to connect you to Marrriott Rewards CSR as they can probably bypass the automated number.

You know my biggest problem with posts on this message board is with people who don't address the OP question, and don't provide constructive post.

Yes Marriott does have elite 800 numbers, but those numbers are for making reservations. Since the poster was asking for a number to contact Marriott Rewards I did not provide those.

I have never been provided an elite number for Marriott Rewards. The only numbers for Marriott Rewards that I know of are the 800-450-4442 automated number I provided in my previous post and the Marriott Rewards redemption number 801-468-4000, which in light of e-awards is really no longer needed as best I can tell.

Now if I am wrong, and you know of Marriott Rewards elite 800 numbers then please be constructive with your posts and provide them. That way all of us can benefit.

Regards,
Bob

Marriott does indeed provide a toll-free customer-service number for Platinum (and possibly Gold) members. Because this number is not for everybody, Marriott does not want it posted on the internet -- and I won't do so. I merely wanted to correct the record. A poster said that Marriott has no toll-free customer-service number, but they do. Sorry if that bothered you!

Hello. Without getting into the discussion about elite telephone numbers (you guys can sort that out among yourselves... . :) ), I just wanted to give you a quick update. I did call the regular customer service number and spoke with a helpful agent. I liked the fact that the recorded message gave me an estimated hold time -- that is a very nice feature. So... mixed reviews on first Marriott customer service experience... some good things and some places they could use improvement in my opinion.

Just wanted to report back... Thank you all for all your constructive posts.

FYI...any hotel or reservation office can look up your MR #
