I am taking a flight to Europe on US 333 aircraft. I am in sardine section. I intend to partake of the IFE. Will my own headphones suffice, or will I have to purchase their headphones? TIA

TIA jcooke Nov 14, 04, 4:37 am If you have a two-pronged airline adapter feel free to use your own headphones. Or you can borrow a pair of their headphones for $5. -JC pdhenry Nov 14, 04, 6:35 am Or you can borrow a pair of their headphones for $5.Doesn't $5 on US still buy you a set of headphones that you can take home (and use next time)? OTOH, isn't IFE free on a transatlantic flight? It's been awhile since I've flown US long-distance (but I have experienced the $5 beverage cart to/from LGW). photog72 Nov 14, 04, 8:37 am I guess my comfortable Sony single plug headphones won't work on their IFE without and adapter. Where can I pick up the adapter? Radio Shack? And yes, apparently they charge you $5 for the headphones in coach. And from reading this complaint page (http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/us_air.htm) it seems that they indeed do charge $5 for headphones. I think that is a "rental" charge too. :( jcooke Nov 14, 04, 12:23 pm I've been spoiled, so I'm not sure if its a rental fee or free in coach for Transatlantic flights. photog: i'm not sure if RadioShack sells them; i can't find it listed on their website. I belive you can pick them up at most gadget shops in the airports. I had actually picked up mine from an audiobookstore for $4. Update: Buy.com has them for sale for $5.99 - not a bad price. Search for "airline adapter". -JC PTravel Nov 14, 04, 1:28 pm I guess my comfortable Sony single plug headphones won't work on their IFE without and adapter. Where can I pick up the adapter? I've even seen them in the newspaper/magazine stores at airports, though I wouldn't count on their availability there. photog72 Nov 14, 04, 1:45 pm I'll just pick one up at Rat Shack tomorrow, before my flight. Thanks for all the advice. EricH Nov 18, 04, 10:23 am Just a bit of clarification. US lets you keep the phones. Also, US has upgraded the phones. The old ones were the kind with two separate units that hooked over your ears and the new ones are more traditional one-piece units. I tried out the new ones on a transatltantic flight last week and I'd say they've got better sound, but they aren't the most comfortable (kind of tight). The Lurker Nov 18, 04, 7:40 pm US sells headsets for $5 on all flights with inflight entertainment, including transatlantic flights. In the past, headsets were free on transatlantic flights, but now US charges. The headsets are yours to keep once you buy them for $5, so as long as you don't lose them, you only have to pay the $5 once. photog72 Nov 22, 04, 3:28 pm It was nice using my own headset, and went and bought the stereo to mono adapter for $7 from a store in between A and B terminals at PHL. The IFE is cool, it was my first time using it. I wish though, that like other airlines they could put a map of where the plane is, that's the only thing I would change. MartinElk Nov 22, 04, 3:36 pm If you buy a pair of headphones from a Delta flight ($2.00), they come with a detachable 2-prong adapter that you can use on your own headphones. |
