Marriott Rewards - Award reservation - written authorization?

I made an award reservation this morning, and am slightly confused. Under the room redemption rules it says "written authorization req, fax to ___", but then when I was done the website told me I didn't have to do anything because an electronic certificate will be sent to the hotel. Do I have to do anything? Or are those rules intended for internal use? BTW - this is for the Ren Amsterdam.

No. They have this phrase in regular reservations as well. Don't know what it actually means, but no action seems required.

Sounds like something when using a credit card authorization.

I asked CS a couple months ago when it first started appearing. Their reply was that it is a credit card authorization in the event you are charging a room to your credit card for someone else.

Seems that this appeared in March, '04. I've had it on several of my reservations, and so have several others...

Thanks, everyone. Tried searching, but guess I need to improve my search skills (or at least use the correct words). :)

I have redeemed nights several times at Courtyards and never received any hard copy (or electronic) reservation/confirmation data. I called to confirm each time as was told that the hotel had the reservation. When I showed up at the hotel, they had it in their computer and everything went smoothly.
