After following XM Radio since the few two satellite launched in March/May 2001 I finally bought a receiver for my car (1992 Honda Civic (only two speakers in front!)).

I ended up purchasing this sytem at Best Buy (east of Louisville, not exactly sure where the store is located since a friend drove and I didn't pay much attention):

Delphi SKYFi2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Wireless FM Modulator Model: SA-10101-11P1

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?j=1&id=1091101655967&skuId=6820871&type=product

Sale: $169.99

This item allows both FM modulator or a cassette adapter. A 30-minute replay option is also available.

I had a great time driving from Austin, IN to Indianapolis (about ~65 miles). It was a quick trip since I constantly surfed all the channels available on XM Radio.

I plan on taking it with me whenever I travel and use it
rental cars, etc.

Programming: http://xmradio.com/programming/programming_main.jsp

I have yet to discover my favorite stations yet but
it was cool to be able to listen to Phil Hendrie as I
was driving back from southern Indiana. Monday during
the morning commute (25 minutes) I will get a chance to
check out the news/talk stations and start setting preset channels.

Anyone else out there have XM? Reception issues? Home
adapters?

I had a great time driving from Austin, IN to Indianapolis (about ~65 miles). It was a quick trip since I constantly surfed all the channels available on XM Radio.

I did a two day drive last year up to Port Townsend WA, about 17 hours from the Bay Area, and loved having the XM along. It made the drive much easier switching around between music and news, and now that all the music stations are commercial free even nicer :)

About the only place I had problems was in heavily forested area around Port Townsend and Port Angeles, where the southern sky was obscured by big trees between me and the satellite. Aside from that, I had a signal the whole way. Even on the drive to Reno from here (3 hours) I hold the signal.

I'm not ready to spend the $350 for the walkman type unit, though. It's going to have to drop quite a bit to get me on board.
