From now on you can observe a small colony of Gentoo penguins here:

Some basic informations about the project
As the result of my (Martin Grund, Germany) private initiative and with energetic support of some German penguin fans (see list below) the worldwide first penguin colony webcam on the antarctic continent is online since September 27, 2004. A MOBOTIX-M10D-Secure Network Camera will document the breeding activities of Gentoo penguins near the German Antarctic Research Station O'Higgins. Especially I thank Mr. Reiner Wojdziak of the German Federal Agency for Geodesy and Cartography in Leipzig to his fantastic support by transporting the camera, installation and configuration! Without his superb help the idea could not have been realized! Thank you!
The pictures are updated every 30 minutes by satellite. The first penguins still did arrive, the last ones will leave again in April 2005.
The camera was sponsored by about 20 people all over Germany including a very creative school class which produced some very beautiful penguins. These pieces of handicraft work could be sold for approx. $550 and the children are now very proud to have supported the worldwide first animal webcam on the antarctic continent!
Have fun with the webcam!
Here an example from the archive (pic will be deleted after a while):

Snowysheathbills (Chionis Alba) can also be seen quite regular in the colony.
Regards
Martin
