Hi all,
There has been a great deal of effort being made at LAX, both behind the scenes with local authorities and in the transit area to improve the customer experience for transit passengers. From 26 October a 3 month trial will be run which is in effect returning to business prior to September 11, 2001.
From 26 Oct First and Business Class customers can choose to remain in the transit facility airside or complete both customs and immigration documentation and visit the Air New Zealand lounge landside.
The dispensation for the trial has been provided on the basis that we only open access to First and Business Class customers for the trial period. Unfortunately, dispensation was not granted for Gold Elites/Koru Club members in Pacific Class to have the same access.
When issuing documentation in the First and Business Class cabins, the ISD will advise customers they have a choice and provide them with the appropriate card and documentation. Customers choosing to visit the
landside lounge will complete customs and immigration docs and be escorted to the front of queues by Air New Zealand staff should another airline have arrived before us. All Pacific Class customers and any First and
Business Class customers choosing to stay airside should continue to be given the transit information card and immigration documentation.
Hopefully the trial will be successful and NZ will be allowed to continue the arrangement (or even expand it, unlikely but worth hoping for!)
