One more reason to ditch Hilton after meeting the Diamond 28 stay threshold.

By June 15th I requalified as Diamond for 2005. Since then, only 2 stays at Hilton properties. But, owing to the Hyatt faster free night promotions, I'll have at least 28 Hyatt nights by the end of this year.

He used to, randomly...but I haven't read anything lately from Mr. Burke.

I agree, there's not much incentive to go beyond the minimum Diamond threshold, especially given Hyatt's stay frequent two, get one free promotions. I too stopped at 28 Hilton stays. Since then I've reached *wood Platinum and will make Hyatt Diamond by Dec. 1st.

I have 28 stays as well, and don't see much of a reason to keep staying with Hilton without some promotions. The year has been very dry. I too have attained Hyatt Diamond status mainly due to the FFN, and am looking at Kimpton In Touch also.

Yes, but only on the exactly 28 subsequent paid stays in the NEXT year. :) (Plus on award redemptions.)

But I can see how you might be confused, given that you're in the UK. See, here in the US, there are many more brands of HHonors properties, and at many of them there is generally NO visible benefit to Diamond. So for many of us in the US, Diamond only comes seriously important on our overseas trips and/or on tought award bookings, not on our "everyday" stays.

Given that you only have Hilton and Contrad (no HGI, no Hampton, no Embassy Suites, no Doubletree, etc) on your side of the Atlantic, I can imagine that you'd look at HHonors quite differently (but I can't even imagine using HHonors if I were living there until/unless Scandic were to come to the UK, since all my 100ish stays a year are on my own dime and thus are generally only at the cheapest HHonors hotels in the US, which are usually HGI or Hampton, which wouldn't be available to me in the UK).

There are no Hyatt properties near where I need to be most of the time. In additon, I like the Diamond treatment I get at most of the HHonors properties.

Free night promo. does sound tempting! :)
