I did a search but couldn't find anything about this hotel. I'm considering staying here for a relatively inexpensive snowboarding trip over New Years, unless we decide to stay in Salt Lake City for a really cheap trip.
Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? The location seems pretty good, and I've generally had decent experiences with HIs, but thought I'd pose the question here since I'm likely to get a knowledgeable response. :)

The HI Park City is right by I-80, next to the Outlet Malls in Park City. It's a nice looking location, and was one of the better HIs that I had stayed in. Of course, it was Summer 2003 when I was there and they hadn't announced the new HI enhancements yet, so I don't know if this one has gotten them yet, but I would recommend it if you don't mind being a few miles outside of Park City.

We stayed there Christmas week 02 on a reward stay. The room was an okay size, not huge. I know that they have suites, but we did not get upgraded I think property was full. Quite frankly, I was so pleased to get a reward stay during Christmas break, that I didn't care.
The property was sort of standard Hampton Inn. It has a big lobby area with a nice fireplace, and a decent size indoor pool and hot tub. It has ski storage, and also laundry facilities-- key for a ski vacation IMHO.
It is a few miles away from the resorts. It is right off the highway, and not in the quaint 'town' area. The Canyons is the closest resort, then Park City, then Deer Valley. I think they have a shuttle, but we drove over to the mountains daily. We preferred the Canyons.
There is the outlet mall nearby, and also a shopping plaza with a WalMart, and some fast food places. We drove into town nightly for dinner. We also ate a great restaurant twice in the shopping center aacroos the street. I think it was called Sage Grill.
If you want ski on ski off, this is not the place for you. But if you want economical lodging and have a car, then its a good choice.

This property is close to a Best Western (not that that is necessarily bad). It shares a parking lot with a Ruby's Tuesday. There is free public transit service from the hotel to all of the ski resorts, the outlet mall (which is within wallking distance in nice weather) and the old town part of Park City. There is, however, no public transit service between Park City and Salt Lake City, but numerous shuttle companies ply that route to and from downtown SLC and the SLC airport, so if you wanted to, you probably could get by without a car.

If you intend to rent a car anyway, you might try to stay in SLC. There are several properties in town, some in the center and a few towards the other ski resorts. I say this because you will find skiing to be much cheaper at the other resorts. Brighton and Soliitude would be cheaper venues for snowboarding that Park City, Canyons, etc. And, they tend to have a little more snow, which can be crucial in early season.
Park City has a nice vibe, but you will be on ther outskirts at the HI. Might want to check the other resorts if total trip cost is an issue and you have several people going.

xooz has a point here, but this issue can be mostly eliminated. If you are flying into SLC, stop in Salt Lake at a sporting goods store (REI, for example) and purchase your lift tickets there before heading up to Park City. They price them much more competitively in Salt Lake City and you could end up saving about $20 per ticket.
As for the Park City HI, it has recently gone through an ownership change and, as such, has had some great improvements made. Overall, I think luv2go's description was dead on. Hope this information helps, and enjoy the wonderful Utah snow (about 20 inches fell today alone!)

It is helpful, and I can't wait to hit the powder out there! It will be my third time snowboarding in Utah -- I really enjoy it out there but have a tougher lodging decision to make this year with travel companions and budgets to consider.
Thanks!

Bump for any recent experiences with this hotel. Headed there to ski in mid-Jan which fortunately or unfortunately overlaps with the beginning of the Sundance Film Festival.
Of particular interest:
a. Diamond experiences with upgrade to suite?
b. Proximity to nightlife/good dining?
Thanks and Happy New Year.

I stayed there in June, no upgrade as a diamond. It's several miles up the road to Park City where the nightlife and good dining is located. Park City is incredibly crowded during Sundance, expect long lines everywhere. Many places are booked for private parties and you won't be able to get in at all. Skiing, on the other hand, should be great with most people at the film festival.

As a local, that is also my impression. Skiing is less crowded than usual because many of the Sundance attendees are more into the party scene than skiing/snowboarding.
I would not expect a diamond upgrade during the Sundance Festival. I bet paying customers have already booked EVERY suite. In fact, I am surprised that you were even able to get a reservation. For the Park City HI, I am sure that the Sundance Festival qualifies amply as a Mega-Event, allowing them to get out of the Diamond Guarantee.

I thought so too but no problem booking under Diamond Privilege (online).
In fact, as of the time of this post, it's still showing available, also under Diamond Privilege.
