From pdhenry on another thread:
"I've been told by a Hilton desk clerk that if you had made a res as Gold before reaching Diamond level the reservation might not bet updated to reflect Diamond status. "
Has anyone had any experiences with this? This happens with Delta and other airlines. Whether moving up or down in status, the reservation reflects the status at time it was made.
I am curious because I have a friend who is a diamond and wants to travel with me to Rome. He does not expect to be a diamond after this year ,while I have already made my diamond level again.
I don't want to travel in April (before his experition date) and he doesn't want to be there without the diamond benefits.
If he made his reservation now for next June through the diamond desk, will Hilton's records reflect him as a diamond?

It wouldn't surprise me if it puts in your status at the time of reservation, or at the time the number was put into the reservation. This happens on most airline frequent flyer program reservations. Since it doesn't affect too many people I doubt they would change their system to poll their database to make sure your status hasn't changed.

I know at American if your status has increased and you want to use one of the higher status perks you need to have an agent remove your frequent flyer number and re-enter it for it to show any new status since the reservation was made, or when the number was first put in the record.

Could go either way, but your friend might want to make sure he has his expired Diamond card with him and if the record doesn't have Diamond Status the hotel might give him the extra perks. Sometimes just being nice to the person at the front desk gives you some extra perks.

If you call reservations and have them refresh your reservation, it should update your status. In the event that your Diamond status is about to expire and you will be Gold for the year, I would not make that call! :p

Past experience on UA is the same. I reached 1K on the outbound and had the check-in agent re-enter my MP# to reflect the new status on my return trip.
