Does anyone know (I guess you have to work for US to answer this one) why some of the international paper tickets have magnetic stripe readers and others don't? When I go to Barcelona sometimes mine do and sometimes they don't. When I check in for SpanAir on my return flight I can use the paper ticket with the magnetic stripe to check in at the Kiosk. But it won't let me without the magnetic strip.

I like using the Kiosks especially when I see a huge line to check in for international (even sometimes the business class line is really long).

SpanAir kiosk are great as it accepts the paper tickets but they have to have the magnetic stripe on them. Also your bag tags come out on the front of the Kiosk. You don't have to wait for anyone. But still a rep has to check your name against the bag before you have it thrown onto the belt.

I hope you dont mind if I jump in on this thread. I will be going on an international flight soon, FRA - PBI and have only a print out of my reservation. How would I get a paper ticket, (I used the internet to book) one with this magnetic strip? It would certainly be nice to check in using these kiosks. My flight is in 3 weeks, can I get one before then?
Hope you don't mind my tagging along on this thread with my question attached to yours, US Airways fan. ;)

Barbie,

I think your flight is all on US metal from FRA to PBI correct? Your ticket is an E ticket so you do not get a paper ticket.

Since my flight from MAD to BCN is a code share operated my SpanAir. I have to have a paper ticket. US Airways and SpanAir are not on the same computer system (as most airlines are not but will be hopefully soon) so they have to give you paper. And your not charged for the paper since you don't have a choice in the matter.

I am not 100% sure but I think now you can print your boarding pass for international departures 24 hours before you leave. So you are lucky. You don't have to worry about the paper tickets. I hate paper tickets but have to live with it.

I did not know one could print out a boarding pass for an international flight.
Thanks for that tip.
Yes, US metal all the way to PBI and warmer weather!
