It's stuff like this that made me switch to my Marriott Visa...I think the points there are more useful and certainly more stable than US miles...Now I'm averaging 4K-6K a month on that...and that's just fine with my Marriott Rewards balance...

Yeah, I have done the same. I was even thinking of cancelling my DM Visa but then the annual fee showed up so I may as well keep it another year.
All my serious charging is going to Marriott Visa and Starwood Amex.

So they want to attract new customers for the credit card. What is the suprise here? I already have a US Visa and I don't see a problem here.

Makes me think of the Sprint commercials about giving the specials to the new customers and not the old ones... "because they're new."
I got the Visa for the triple promo early this spring. The promo got me to sign up, which has made them money, though it did make some people here that had the card unhappy about not getting the same promo. Then again, how many cardholders know about the promos they aren't targeted for?

Just for giggles, I signed up for these double miles and I got my card this summer via the promo. Can't hurt to try. ;)

This is marketing, circa 2004, where you do more for the new, or occasional customer than you do for the brand loyal. After all, you have the regular customer. Where are they going? It happens in every area, from stores to cell phones.Visa has been doing it in the hubs for years, with those cute little stuffed bears in flying suits. Two things are amazing. One is that they think it's OK to do it, and the other is they do, because we never walk after it happens. It appears they got it figured just about right.
well - the promo states for new customers who are approved by December 2004.
Well - it does not say - what is the starting date - so we are all approved by December 2004?

I looked at the Promo and it stated that anyone who signed up for a visa card the beginning of October would qualify.
But I signed on for it anyway. We shall see if anything comes of it.
