Hilton HHonors - How do I Achieve Hilton Honors Gold Level?

I have accumulated almost 60,000 points in the HH program. I am currently a Silver VIP and was looking forward to Gold level, mainly for the free upgrades. However, it now seem unclear as to exactly what points will qualify me for the Gold Level. Do all points accrued count towards the Gold level, or just the base points (points earned for actual hotel stays?) I have accumulated about half my points through credit cards, MyPoints, etc. I believe those are bonus points, as opposed to base points. I tried contacting Hilton to clarify this point, but no answer (3 emails--bad sign?). Well, I would like someone here to clarify it for me. Currently, I'm pushing for the HH points by using my American Express Platimun HH CC, which gives me 3 HH points for every dollar spent. However, if that won't help me achieve Gold Level, then I'd rather go back to using my AMEX Gold card, which gives me one mile for every dollar, but I have more flexibility as to what programs to utilize the points with. Any help out there?

In order to reach Hilton Honors Gold level it usually requires 16 stays, 36 qualifying nights or 60,000 HHonors Base points in a calendar year. There's a current promo NAVG (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=342579) going on, please check in order to see whether you might be interested.

With the above being said, the amount of HHonors points you have in your account have no direct impact in your HHonors level.

If becoming HHonors Gold is important to you, maybe the NAVG and 4 stays in 90 days should be the easiest way.

Here in the UK, the UK Amex Platinum Card gets you HH Gold Status automatically (after filling in a form)( I do not know about the US Amex Plat card).

Let's not talk about base points, bonus points,etc.

Short form:
You gotta spend $6k in payments to Hilton to make gold if you don't do the nites or stays. This $6k is for the room(s) or other stuff charged to the room (seems to be always food but other stuff varies). Does not include taxes.

If you wanta D. you need $10k.

Thought this info might help. If you do sign up for the 4 stay=gold promo, the Las Vegas Hilton or the Hilton/Hampton around Niagra Falls,N.Y. normally have excellent prices in the winter.
