 DCA to DFW and IAH on an RJ? No first class? If that's the wave of the future... OTOH, some PHL-DFW and all PHL-IAH are now E170s. And those are routes where they charge a pretty penny.

This is great news for DCA :) I am so happy no more layovers! I am sorry to hear about GSO though :(

Question where and how did you find this information. I do not see it as a press release on the US Airways website.

They will be lucky to still be flying by then.

Deelmakur...we all know what the score is right now...what possible good do you think your post could have done? Why not create your own thread and leave all your pesimistic and negative crap there...

If you've given up on the airline, fine...then get the heII out of this forum...

As someone on US Aviation noted, the Airbus' will be returning to LAS (especially from PHL). Don't know if this is good or bad news.

So, the real question becomes where are all the 757's going??

Has US since updated its schedules again? I'm looking at the service changes listed above from DTW. PIT remains unchanged for now, CLT is going from 2xRJ & 2x733 to 1xRJ & 4x733, and PHL gains a RJ -- but loses the E70 previously scheduled & no addition of mainline.

Dawg, you are missing the point. This thread is lamenting further downgrading of mainline service, which by extension makes all the time and effort to achieve elite status pretty useless. I was simply reminding those folks who are having trouble with that decision that there are bigger issues, including the airline's own statement that it only has enough cash until mid January. If, in fact, you are a lender or equity investor, and know something the rest of us don't, I apologize. Otherwise, as a contributer to this board for many years, and a customer with nearly 3 million lifetime miles (who took his first trip as a kid on Pennsylvania Central Airlines, where much of this company began), I respectfully suggest that before you order me off these threads for saying the obvious, you consider migrating your own rear end to US Aviation.com, where the Kool Aid flows more freely, and the thought process is more fanciful.

Two are headed to northeast Florida.

In 1999, we had 19 mainline and 16 express flights.

Currently, there are 10 mainline (all 733s, 734s and 319s) and 3 express flights.

As of 02/05, there will be 15 mainline flights, including the 57's. We expect 2 or 3 daily departures to LGA, once that ramps up. US had JAX-LGA all to itself for many years, but DL has recently filled the void with CRJs.

The whole reason for the First class downgrade from 24 to 8 seats was to pack those planes with as many tourists as possible. So, with the Winter season, the '57 will likely be devoted to FL and Carrib. routes only.

Walking down memory lane, I dug up an old "USAir Frequent Traveller Program" newsletter from the early 90's. In it was a story about the acquisition of 757's (from Eastern's demise), and the purchase of new ones to expand transcontinental flying. It boasted about the expanded First Class cabin of 24 seats with fine dining and the latest in-flight entertainment.......<sniff, sniff>

The 757 at US is an orphan. If you recall, in the proposed UA merger, they were actually going to AA, along with pilots. Flight crew certified to fly the 757 can also fly the 767, since they have a common cockpit, however, I don't believe the US labor contract allows that, so that synergy doesn't count at this company. As often discussed on these threads, about a third of the USAirways 757 fleet is pretty long in the tooth (when they bought the type, they agreed to take a number of them Boeing had recovered from Eastern, as well as new ones. Those were the first one's built). For USAirways, the 757 is just a commodity, its original role having been taken by the A321. They will dump them when they can. Presumably 757 pilots get paid at a higher rate, and these versions don't go to Europe, an application CO has used quite effectively in smaller markets like the two they just announced, Hamburg and Berlin. One guy's albatross is another's growth machine. In a funny sort of way, the diminution of importance of these fine aircraft at USAirways is almost a metaphor for where the place is now.

The E170. That is the new ERJ correct? That is a nice aircraft and it is pretty big if you have not seen it. You can actually stand up in it. And they say it is pretty darn comfortable. Has anyone taken a flight on this a/c yet?

I hope this works out well for US. I think they need to get the word out in the respective cities or people will just not know about the new service. Many people just don't fly like we all do which is about every week.

All in all great news for DCA :)

I've done 3 r/t PHL to ATL and concur, this is plane is AWSOME! There is no comparison between this plane and one of those CanadaAir suckers! When you get on, it looks like you are on a traditional jet with galley, restroom, etc in front. The seats are quite comfortable. Only disadvantage of course being no first class (or exit row for that matter). Given the choice of an E170 and a coach seat on a boeing or airbus, I'd be on one of these every time. You can even fit a "standard" rollaboard in the overhead.

I flew the E170 for the first time a week ago. It is very nice, actually. Better than a worn out full size jet and much better than any RJ (except possible the Northwest Avro RJ). Not a bad choice if your destination is 'expressed'

From airliners.net http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1783055/

PIT as of 2/9/2005 (230 daily flights, 66 destinations):
ABE-1x DH8 (Piedmont), 3x SF3 (Colgan)
A...

I assume the two that are missing are PHL and CLT - there has to be a way to get everywhere else.

Only 18 destinations via mainline jet :(

24 if you include E70's

Been on it. Like it. Best regional jet experience so far.

Only problem: no FC, no upgrade.

ON THE OTHER hand, if coach is genuinely comfy on a 2hr flt, and they can make money at it, they may have found a sweet spot, and if it really is COMFY, i can live with it.

Would like to know what a larger/taller person thinks of E170... I fit in OK in many spots where tall people are a-complainin'.

As someone on US Aviation noted, the Airbus' will be returning to LAS (especially from PHL). Don't know if this is good or bad news.
Which Airbus? If it is the A321, then that is more comfortable than the 757 anyway, plus it has 24 f/c seats as opposed to 8 on the 757. We used to take A321's to Vegas when we first got them.

So, the real question becomes where are all the 757's going??
They are going buh bye! We will be an all Airbus fleet.

Im assuming there are no major changes to the flights operated out of focus cities like DCA, LGA, BWI and BOS.

Any word on US Airways Clubs, will they all still be around in February? or have there been some closures announced?

Still no PHL-MEM, why do they give that up to NW?

I believe they're referring to the 321 returning to LAS as it hasn't been flying there in a while. And the 321 has 26 F seats, not 24.

I don't think there's a lot of money to be made there. At least on the day I checked (Oct 28 04) NW is only running small Avro jets from Mesaba on the route, rather than even DC-9s.
